Jacqui Kalin pretty much used and abused Bugg Jones tonight. Bugg fouls out with 3:15 to go. Shocks lead 55-48 but Kalin is shooting a 1 and 1 after the break.

Alex has been big for the Shocks over the last few minutes.

Kalin, a 95% free throw shooter (and she shoots a lot of them), missed the back end of the 1 and 1. Alex Harden then score a basket for the Shocks for a 57-49 lead. Kalin drives to the basket and draws a foul. Hits both free throws to close to 57-51. Jessica turns it over.

Kalin with a layup to close it to 57-53.

Kelsey miss a 6 footer then commits a foul.

UNI shooting free throws. 57-53 with 1:13 remaining.

Shocks money is apparently worhtless in Cedar Falls because they abosutely can't buy a call, let alone get one.

UNI shooting a free throw to tie the game with 25 seconds remaining.

Another very questionable foul call on the Shocks to foul Alex Harden out of the game. Brian Petrotta says that he has not seen anything like it this year.

10.6 seconds to go. Shocks lead 59-57 with UNI shooitng one more free throw after a Shocker timeout.

UNI misses the free throw. Darice gets the rebound and is fouled.

1 and 1. Makes the first and misses the 2nd. Shocks lead 60-57.

Kalin misses a 3 with 3 seconds remaining.

Kelsey fouled with 0.2 seconds to go, although Brian says the clocked seemed slow to start and they are checking it at the monitor.

Officials surprisingly overrule the UNI timekeeper's attempt to cheat. The game is ruled over. Must have really been obvious.

              Shockers win 60-57.

Way to hang in their ladies. Great start to your MVC Season.

Jody says that it felt like they were playing against 7 tonight, an obvious shot at the refs.

Alex Harden with the big plays for the Shocks down the stretch.

Jessica lead the Shocks with 13. Jaz had her best game of the year going 6-6 for 12 points but kind of disappeared late. Alex had 12 including a couple of key scores late.

1972 is good at play by play. I watched on the web. Officiating was brutal and I rarely care about officiating. Kelsey's last foul was a phantom foul, not even near the player. She also dribbled out the clock with 1.2 left. Must have dribbled for three seconds. Again three in double figures. Good effort. Let's get a crowd for Creighton.

Doesn't the technology exist to stop the clock on the whistle? I know some conferences have the officials starting the clock with that "implant" on their hip. No reason to have to mess with this nonsense.

The official clock did not start on time. As Kelsey was waiting at the line to shoot one and one with .2 left the officials looked at the replay and it was obvious she had dribbled out the time. Game over. Of course if Kelsey got to shoot and makes both she would have had 10 and we would have had four in double figures. No matter, the good guys won.

Yes, but in some conferences, the officials start the clock with a gizmo on their hip. I need to do some research I think. I may only think I know what I am talking about it.

EDIT: This article is from 1999, so this has been around for a long while. Here is the site of the manufacturer of the system, Precision Time Systems. No costs for the system are given on the site, but they can't be that outrageous.

You are correct on officials having a timer on their hip. I don't know if MVC refs do in women's or men's.
