Just watched the Shocker win over Cincinnati. With about 2:20 left in the game DJ McCarty reached out and batted a hard pass out of bounds and immediately grabbed her right shoulder and ran off the court. DJ did not have a good game today but still that would be a tough loss if that injury cause her to miss any signficant time

I assume that is a rhetorical question. The Shocks were up by 24 with 5 mintues to play and by 22 at the point DJ went out, At that point all 5 Shocker starters were still in the game. At that point Nhug, Ornella and Jeniah subbed in for DJ, Jane and Ambah. Trajata subbed out with a minute to play and Shamaryah finished the game. As far as the reason for that you would have to ask the person making those decisions.

Not sure how badly DJ was hurt but she certainly seemed to be in quite a bit of distress.

Roughly halfway through the conference schedule, USF remains undefeated at 9-0. Four other schools are 5-3.

The AAC is a one-bid conference unless someone besides the Bulls wins the conference tournament. The conference and bids is playing out as expected.

USF is now 10-0 and is 4 games up on its nearest pursuers. Tulane who beat the Shocks 76-53 in New Orleans lost at Houston this past Sunday 82-36. So USF just keeps winning and most of the other AAC teams else just keeps trading wins and losses with each other with UCF and Cincinnati providing tagging along at the bottom of the conference.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Led by first year head coach Diane Richardson, Temple enters Wednesday's matchup at 9-11 this season and 4-4 in American play. Temple is led by a three-headed scoring attack in Aleah Nelson, Tiarra East and Jasha Clinton. Nelson leads the team in scoring (15.7 points) and assists (80), while East adds 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds and Clinton chips in 11.1 points and 53 assists. Nelson is a two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Week and shoots 34.2 percent from beyond the arc. As a team, Temple leads the American Athletic Conference in free throw shooting at 75.1 percent.

This is a winnable game for the Shocks I think. The key may be the health status of DJ McCarty and Curtessia Dean. Dean missed the last game due to injury and DJ left that game with about 2 minutes left to play with an apparent shoulder injury. The Shocks may have an advantage inside with Colbert and Asinde.

Lineup Check: DJ is in the starting lineup along with Shamaya Duncan, Ambah Kowcun, Jane Asinde and Trajata Colbert.

Temple's 2nd leading scorer has been kicked off the team joining a couple of earlier departures.

The Shocks with the help of a flagrant foul on Temple to close out the half on a 6-0 run over final 1:30 of the half to slice a 13 point Temple lead to 7 at halftime as the Shocks head to the locker room down 28-35. The Shocks have been a pretty decent second half team this season so this game is definitely up in the air at this point.

If the Shocks are going to pull this one out Temple has made that a much bigger challenge outscoring the Shocks 22-13 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 16 at 57-41 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Shocks gave it a go cutting the leas to 7 at 59-66 with 2:30 to play before running out of steam. Temple scored the final 6 points of the game to win 72-59.

The Shocks just dug a hole too deep to climb out of.

The Shocks outrebounded the Owls 50-36 but had 16 turnovers to only 13 for Temple. But the most telling stat was the shooting percentages. Temple shot 26-56 (46%) from the field including 8-19 (42%) on 3-pointers. The Shocks made 20-72 (28%) from the field including 2-11 (18%) on 3-pointers and it sounded like the Shocks missed a boat load of bunnies.

Trajata Colbert had a big night for the Shocks scoring 25 points on 8-19 from the floor and 9-11 from the line plus she had 11 rebounds for a double-double. But her teammates could not find the range in this game combingin to shoot 12-53 (22.6%) from the floor.

Kind of disappointing that the Shocks could not take advantage of a somewhat depleted Temple team as they only had 8 players available tonight.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Led by second year head coach Katrina Merriweather, Memphis enters Saturday's matchup at 12-9 this season and 4-4 in American play. Memphis averages 70.3 points on 40.6 percent shooting and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigers boast the league's third-best rebound margin at plus-7.0 and they average 41.6 boards a game. Jamirah Shutes leads the Tigers in scoring at 14.8 points per game, followed by Madison Griggs at 12.6 per game. Griggs knocks down nearly 40 percent of her three-point attempts. Emani Jefferson puts in 9.2 points to go with a team-high 53 assists and 26 steals.

Not quite sure what to expect with this one. Memphis is only 4-4 in AAC play but 2 of its losses were to USF, the last one by only 5 points, plus a road loss at Temple and a home loss to ECU.

Again, I think this is a game the Shocks are capable of winning but they have to play well and need to shoot much better than the did against Temple.

Looks like Nhug Bosch-Duran is in the starting lineup in place of Shamaryah Duncan. The Shocks give up a lot of size with that move. Ambah Kowcun starting her 3rd game in a row. Not sure if Curtessia Dean is still under concussion protocol or not.

Shocks off to a rocky start down 3-13 at the mid-point of the first quarter.

The Shocks trail 18-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. Shocks are only 2-16 from the field. Lucky to be as close as they are. They stabilized over the final 5 minutes of the quarter. Now they need to start finding the range and narrow this lead by halftime.

The Shocks narrowed the lead a little bit to 6 trailing 24-30 at halftime. After shoot only 7-29 (24.1%) from the field in the first half they are bound to shoot better in the 2nd half. The Shocks were 10-14 from the free throw line outscoring Memphis by 6 points at the line. The Shocks only turned it over 4 times so they are taking care of the ball.

Memphis extends is lead slightly in the 3rd quarter leading by 9 at 49-40 heading into the final 10 minutes. The Shocks continue to struggle from the field making only 3-13 shots in the 3rd quarter but continue to make their living at the line as they were 9-10 from the line in the quarter.

Won't be easy but the Shocks are still within striking distance. Probably are going to have to hit a few more shots from the field though. The Shocks have made only 10 field goals through the 1st 30 minutes.

The Shocks finally starting hitting some shots in the 4th quarter as they made 8-15 shots including 4-6 by Ambah Kowcun included 2 of 4 treys and 3-4 by Jane Asinde. However, Memphis was able to hold their own and the Shocks got no closer than 8 points over the final 7 minutes of the game.

Memphis lead this one wire to wire and after were able to pretty much maintain the early 10 point lead they built in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Jane Asinde with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Trajata Colbert 11 points and 10 rebounds lead the way for the Shocks with a pair of double-doubles. Ambah Kowcun chipped in 10 points, all in the 4th quarter, and Shamaryah Duncan had 8. That foursome combined to for 44 points on 15-36 (41.7%) from the field including 12-14 from the line by Jane and Trajata. The 5 other Shockers who played contributed 16 points on 3-21 (14.3%) from the field but they did hit 9 of 12 free throws.

Memphis had a slight edge on the boards with 30D/14O rebounds to 29D/11O for the Shocks but they made their 2nd chances count far more than the Shocks outscoring the Shocks 23-7 on 2nd chance points.

LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State followed up its worst shooting game of the season with its third-worst in a 70-60 loss vs. Memphis on Saturday in Charles Koch Arena. Wichita State made a season-low 18 field goals and shot just 31.7 percent from the floor.

SCOUTING THE GREEN WAVE
Led by 29th year head coach Lisa Stockton, Tulane enters Thursday's matchup at 13-10 this season and 3-7 in American play. The Green Wave average 69.3 points per game on a league-leading 15.7 assists, and shoot just under 43 percent from the field. Marta Galic leads Tulane in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (7.0), and a majority of her scoring comes from beyond the arc where she's converting on 37.1 percent of her attempts. Kyren Whittington (12.4 PPG) and Dynah Jones (11.6 PPG) round out the double figure scorers. Rachel Hakes has dished out 116 assists so far this season. She leads the American Athletic Conference in assists and ranks 28th nationally.

LAST MEETING
Wichita State fell in a deep hole early in the first matchup this season at Tulane, and never recovered, falling 76-53 on Jan. 11. Tulane scored 31 points in the first quarter and then outscored the Shockers, 18-6, in the third quarter to put the game away. Wichita State committed 19 turnovers, and missed 16-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc. Tulane shot nearly 50 percent from the field and outrebounded Wichita State by nine.

Tulane looked great when they stomped the Shocks in Tulane a month ago and you would never guess this would be a team now tied with the Shocks at 3-7 in AAC play. Tulane has definitely not played well lately. After giving Tulsa their 1st conference a couple of weeks ago, Tulane has lost at home 59-68 to a decent Temple team, got destroyed at Houston 36-82 and lost at home to lowly Cincinnati 50-53 this past Saturday.

Not sure what is going on with Tulane but this would seem to be another very winnable game for the Shocks. But the Shocks need to break out of their current field goal shooting slump to make that happen.

With the score tied 1 minute into the 2nd quarter the Shocks went on a 12-2 run over the next 4 minutes to take a 28-18 lead and pretty much kept it right there until Shamaryah Duncan hit a 3 pointer after a Tulane turnover with 7 seconds on the 1st half clock. Shocks lead 38-25 heading to the locker room.

Trajata Colbert with a big first half scoring 14 points on 6-9 from the field and 2-2 from the line.

Clearly not the same Tulane team the Shockers ran into in New Orleans a month ago.

Tulane pulled within 5 points mid-way through the 3rd quarter before the Shocks extended the lead back to 11 with 7:40 to play in the game. Tulane cut the lead to 6 with 6 minutes to place but could get not closer. Shocks win 69-61 to pass Tulane in the standings.

The Shocks dominated this game in paint with Jane Asinde taking over in the 2nd half. Jane, with 22, and Trajata. with 20. combined for a total of 42 points on 12-21 from the field and 18-19 from the free throw while Jane had 11 rebounds and Trajata had 10.

The Shocks outscored Tulane in the paint 36-18 and made 24 of 27 free throws to 8 of 9 for Tulane. The Shocks only turned it over 7 times.

SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Led by fourth year head coach Kim McNeill, East Carolina enters Saturday's matchup at 16-8 this season and 7-4 in American play. East Carolina boasts the league's top defense where its opponents are only averaging 54.5 points per game. The Pirates create havoc in the way of forcing turnovers. Their opponents are averaging 25.0 turnovers a game with nearly 14 of those ending up in steals. ECU ranks second nationally in turnovers forced per game, third in steals per game and turnover margin. Danae McNeal leads ECU in scoring (16.6 ppg) and steals (72) to go with 3.0 rebounds and 37 assists. McNeal is 8th nationally in total steals. Amiya Joyner pulls down a team-best 8.3 rebounds to go with 10.3 points.

So the question today is can the Shockers penetrate ECU's tough march up 3-2 zone or, if not, can the shut down ECU enough to pull out a win. ECU defeated the Shocks in Wichita 66-57. The Shocks ourrebounded ECU in that game 51-22 but turned the ball over a whopping 27 times.

I think the Shocks have a chance in this game if they can take care fo the basketball and I am sure that was a focus of the practices this week.

The Shocks did not get of to a good start. They made only 1-13 shots from the filed and 3-6 from the line in the 1st quarter and turned it over 7 times as the found themselves down 5-16 at the end of the frist quarter.

The Shocks got it going in the 2nd quarter led by 10 points from Jane Asinde as the made 8-19 shots but did turned it over 6 more times. But they did keep ECU from expanding their lead as the Shocks stay withing shouting distance trailing by 10 at 23-33 at the half.

The teams continue to tread water throught the 3rd quarter. ECU continues to lead 52-40 heading into the final quarter.

The Shocks have narrowed the leas to 7 points with 7 minutes to play so they still have a shot at pulling this out. The Shocks could not get any closer and ECU pull away late for a 79-62 win.

The Shocks continue to rely on the inside duo fo Trajata Colbert and Jane Asinde to carry the load. Trajata had 17 points and 16 rebounds and Jane had 20 points and 5 rebounds.

ECU shot 42.1% from the field to 32.8% for the Shocks. Neither team was very good from the perimeter as the Shocks were 2-13 (15.4%) and ECU was 3-17 (17.6%).

There were 55 fouls called in the game. 30 on the Shockers and 25 on the Pirates.with each team picking up a technical foul. 3 Shockers fouled out and 2 Pirates fouled out. The Shocker were 18-28 (64.3%) and ECU was 28-40 (70%) from the free throw line.

The Shocks outrebounded ECU 45-36 but that also had 25 turnovers to 17 turnovers for ECU.

All-in-all it sounds like kind of an ugly basketball game.
