Web site for the 2012 NJCAA Division I National Championship to be held May 17-19.

So far 15 of the 16 teams have been determined including Lake Land College (51-5) and Butler County CC (40-15).

Live video will be available for the final 4 games (5 if a 2nd championship game is needed) if either team is fortunate to make it into the final 4 teams alive in the double elimination tournament.

Update: The bracket is now set http://sgcity.org/recreation/njcaa/brackets.php

In the opening round (I think the times are Mountain Daylight Time):

#13 seed Butler (KS) takes on #4 Pima (AZ) Thursday 5/17 @ 10:00 am

#10 Lake Land (IL) matches up with #7 Howard (TX) Thursday 5/17 @ 1:00 pm

Shocker fans will get the chance to see future Shocker Paige Mason as St. Thomas Aquinas has punched their ticket to the 5A tournament which will be held at Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita next weekend.

Yes. OPS certainly seems to be the standard metric for measuring overall offensive abilities.

And am I ever late with this reply! Those long naps will do that.

#13 seed Butler (KS) takes on #4 Pima (AZ) Thursday 5/17 @ 10:00 am MDT
Butler lead 3-2 into the bottom of the 6th but Mac Milspaugh gave up a 3-run homer and a 2-run double in the 6th and Pima wins 7-4. Butler moves to the loser's bracket and plays at 4:30 MDT (5:30 CDT).

#10 Lake Land (IL) matches up with #7 Howard (TX) Thursday 5/17 @ 1:00 pm MDT
Shocker recruit Tanna Hinthorne took a no-hitter and a 1-0 lead into the 6th inning. Unfortunately, as with Butler the 6th inning proved to be her downfall as she gave up 5 runs on 5 hits, including two home runs. Lakeland loses 5-1. Lakeland plays in Game 12 also at 4:30 MDT (5:30 CDT).

Tanna Hinthorne pitched the first 5 innings for Lake Land in their elimination game against #15 seed Western Nebraska (Scottsbluff) giving up 1 run on 5 hits. After her teammates put up 5 in the top of the 6th to take 10-1 lead they pulled Tanna and put in her freshman teammate Kayla Kirkpatrick who pitched a 1-2-3 6th to end the game by run rule.

Kirkpatrick's numbers are also very good.

Butler was trailing #12 seed Temple College (TX) by a score of 7-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th. The live stats feed either locked up or they didn't finish inputting the final half inning. Assuming Butler was unable to come back they are eliminated.

The final was indeed 7-2. Sometimes the live stats do not "complete", but you can see the final scores on the home page.

Lake Land next plays the loser of tonight's Chattanooga State-Wallace (Hanceville, AL) State game at 11am CT tomorrow.

Uodate: #9 Wallace State will be the opponent, not unexpected as Chattanooga State is the #1 seed.

Butler had a good preformance considering they sent nine players to D-1 a year ago and replaced all but their second baseman. Look for them to be tough next season.

Lake Land is eliminated by #9 seed Wallace State (AL) in 8 innings losing 6-5.

Tanna Hinthorne went all the way for Lake Land. She did give up a couple of home runs, a solo shot and a 3-run dinger. In the 8th she walked the lead off batter that came around to score on a 2-out single to eliminate the Lakers.

What to make of Tanna Hinthorne's performance in the NJCAA D-I Tournament?

She was 1-2. She did not strike out all that many, 11 in 20 innings and she did give up 4 home runs.

Tanna may very well be able to contribute to our pitching staff next year, but based on her performance in the NJCAA tournament I think expectations should definitely be moderated for Tanna. We'll find out for sure next year. Just my very uninformed 2 cents.

From the end of the article in the Sunday Eagle about the 4A State Softball Tournament and concerning Sydnee Eck:

"And as [Coach] Hein's career came to a close, Eck admitted to a change of heart when it came to her career - she'd previously stated that she didn't want to play softball in college.

The weekend run to the state title, however, may have sparked something.

'It does make me feel differently ... it makes me want to play,' Eck said. 'But nobody has called me.' "

Well, having played very little summer ball and having previously expressed no desire to play beyond high school, it is not surprising that nobody has called.

But can she find a fit for both softball and the academics she will need for a medically-oriented career? And, Hov, at what level can she play? I have doubts that she is a D-I pitcher, but perhaps she is a D-I outfielder/hitter. (The D-I suggestion has the academics in mind.) We will await your opinion, or anybody else's for that matter.

She would not be a D1 pitcher - but 3b or OF would be a possibility. She is a pull hitter that has not seen repeated high quality pitching for at least 2 years due to only playing hs ball. Would have to play Gold ball this summer and show her skills - which I suspect are D1 quality for hitting and speed.

She is definately a DI player. She can hit, she's fast and can play defense. She would be a great pick up for the Shox.
