Shocks prevail 53-51 in a real battle. Shocks did not play great but the certainly played hard and holding MSU to 51 points is not an easy chore by any means.

The Shocks held Casey Garrison scoreless in the 1st half although she pulled the Bears back in the game late.

Shocks had a great chance to pull away when they had a 40-28 lead midway through the second half but then went into scoring drought and we also had a tough time keep MSU off of their offensive boards. Not sure the Shocks played especially smart during that stretch but they never let up on the effort and had just enough to hold off the Bears. Great free throw line jumper from Jaz in the final minute to give the Shocks just enough breathing room to survive.

Nice crowd, probably around 2,500 in attendance. Not particularly energetic. I accounted for 19 of those between my two season tickets and the 17 Bradley stubs I collected last night. Great job by the Lady Shocker softball team replacing the cheerleaders who were at a national competition. In fact, they were probably better than the regular cheerleaders. Absolutely horrible showing by the Shocker student body though. Really quite pathetic.

All-in-all a very good day for the Lady Shocks. Not only did they hold serve at home agaisnt a good Missouri State team but they moved into sole possession of 1st place with Indiana State losing by 21 at Bradley (where the Shocks won by 13). Shocks now with an 8 game winning streak - second best in school history.

Only we true basketball fans will support the Shox. The rest will wait for a MVC championship game and then join the band wagon. This was very good hoops. Many of my friends all over the USA said the same thing. Issues with Shockervision. much easier to watch it on the visitors systom. Get your act together WSU!!!!

are classes even back in session yet? a little harsh if you ask me to call it pathetic...don't remember there being many student fans on the road when i worked for WBB

don't get a lot of student fans in general for WBB - don't know why you think WSU is so special to be different

should probably temper your expectations a little.....

oh, and the game was on espn3 (watchespn.com) - though you had to put up with MSU's announcers (they were horrible - every time WSU or MSU tipped a ball out of bounds on defense they called it a turnover or a steal....almost as bad as hearing bruce haertl worrying about almost getting a 10 second backcourt violation 4 or 5 times a game.....

I just want to support the Lady Shox. We can do better in attendance and ShockerVision. There are very low level teams that do much better than us. This team is the real deal. keep it coming!!!!!

Maybe it was mentioned, but the game was on Kansas22 with Bob Hull and Mark Ewing (I think). MSU has some beefy girls. WSU should have led about 25-6 early. They forced a ton of turnovers and just couldn't take advantage.

I really like Gordon's game. If they continue to play with that defensive effort, they'll win a lot of games in the Valley.

              Nice job girls.

Missouri State has some ball players for sure. DrWu is right in that WSU should have opened up a gap early but had trouble finishing around the basket early. Couldn't find any real tempo until after half when they opened up a 12 pt lead. Found a way to finish the game though, and thats not something we have had trouble doing during a lot of years. Jasmine Gordon found some seems in the D and hit some nice mid range jumpers down the stretch. The girls get out and guard. Made it tough for MSU all night. Gave up a few more offensive rebounds in the 2nd half then I would have liked. I wasn't unhappy with the crowd at all really. We had our usual group of ten. School is still out but the women's team never really draws a student crowd anyway. I've seen fewer people at a few of the men's road games. And the Ou-Ku crowd wasnt' all that impressive today. Bottom line, i'm proud of the job this team has done in coming together since losing some games early. 5-0 in the Valley and having beat several of the teams picked to finish in the top half of our league is quite an accomplishment. Hopefully the team continues to recieve some media love around town and we can get some people out to see them. They put out the effort and deserve it.

I agree, some really questionable decisions. But only six Shockers played significant minutes and fatigue may have started being a factor. Regarding the minutes, Alicia, 19; Jasmine, 23; Chynna, Jazimen, Jessica and Haleigh, all 35+.

2814, according to the box score.

There was a large student contingent at the Bradley game. I don't set my expectations by what others do. But you are correct in that WSU is not special. And I expect that without the freebies we will be right back to our crowds of 600-800 with pretty much non-existent student support. I hope those expectations are low enough for you.

During this winning streak they have been playing with that defensive effort every game. Their offense seems to come and go and we definitely have some deficiencies on that side of the ball and tend to have scoring droughts here and there. It is very important for the Shocks to value the ball and play smart, team oriented basketball on the offensvie end.

Good point @flyingMoose:. Jody really did shorten her bench today. I guess that says something about how important Jody believed this was.

Not sure that's accurate. If I was just a basketball fan I would probably just stay home and watch the best games on TV. Only Shocker fans (for the most part) will support the Shockers in person and only a relatively small portion of Shocker fans will support the so-called minor sports even though any support given to those programs actually benefits the bell cow men's basketball program. As @shocksrox: points out that is just the way it is and WSU is not special in that regard.

you can set your expectations however high you want

don't come on here bashing students that aren't even back for class yet when they're not met though

They were at the men's game the night before. Plus we have a very large number of students that live in and around Wichita. I'm not expecting the same turnout as for a men's game. Maybe 100 to 200 hundred students.

Besides the students have not been there when class is in session, atlhough that is a smokescreen argument in any case considering the location of our student body.

On a good note, at least we pay general admission and get terrific seats :-) Hopefully that changes as the wins continue.
