Besides the students have not been there when class is in session, atlhough that is a smokescreen argument in any case considering the location of our student body.
On numerous past posts, others have stated that the number is low and that this is the reason for the relatively low attendance.
Having no idea as to what low means, I checked google, but the WSU information that the university provides does not list this info.

I do not have that info, but there has been a decent turnout of students for the men's games during the semester break so I am not buying the students have gone home argument as a reason for the more or less non-existent student support at women's games during the same time period.
Now if the argument is that the students simply have no interest in women's basketball or that it is so far down on their list of things they want to do I could buy that as I think that is probably the case. And I don't think that is really limited to the student portion of the fan base.
As shocksrox says my expectations are clearly too high and I think he is correct on that point.

As the WSU Volleyball team attendance proves, Wichita State fans will support women's sports in a big way when given a reason to do so. As with all fan bases, years of losing seasons results in meager attendance. WSU women's basketball is digging out of a deep hole. I'm not particularly discouraged at our attendance to date. It takes time to reverse expectations and build interest. Nothing will build attendance quicker than winning a Valley championship. We can have great attendance if we continue to build a winning program. The fact that man is master of his actions is due to his being able to deliberate about them.-- Thomas Aquinas

MSU only lost by 2 at K-State, while we got obliterated by them. We barely beat a very bad Winthrop team. LBSU is also very bad and we weren't exactly impressive there.
RPI takes into account your opponent and your opponent's opponent - it's all based on numbers - we can't really gripe about it like you can the ranking polls done by stupid media people that don't know half of what's going on in the country

RealTimeRPI.com has MSU at 51 and the Shocks at 68 but there is not much difference between MSU's rating of .5863 and WSU's rating of .5730. The difference may primarily be due to MSU's SOS of 73 to the Shocks SOS of 89.
If the Shocks continue to win this should eventually work itself out.
Not sure if the Shocks have ever had an RPI as good as 68.
If you look at the RealTimeRPI.com Power Ratings the Shocks are 69 and MSU is 70.
RTR Power Rating System uses a much more complicated statistical model compared to the RPI ratings. RTR Power Ratings intend to determine individual teams' true potential and strength.
In any case, what the ratings do show is that the MVC is a one bid conference so winning the regular season championship has little to no impact on reaching the NCAA Tournament although I think winning the regular season is a worthy goal and can impact invites and seedings to secondary post-season tournaments.
The MVC Tournament is, in effect, an NCAA play-in tournament.
Shocks have never won a regular season MVC Championship nor made they made it to the NCAA Tournament. Both are goals that need to be achieved as they continue to try and build a successful program. I would think acheiving these goals should help with recruiting also.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 16, 2012, 11:24 AM.

This week's NCAA RPI rankings are out. The Shocks moved from 83 to 67, Missouri State from 49 to 51 and Creighton, the only other Valley school less than 100, from 86 to 98. Even if we sweep this weekend's games, I suspect the quality of the opposition (Evansville - 288, Southern Illinois - 303 , ouch!!) will drop us back some.
The Women's Mid-Major Top 25 should be out later this evening.
