Box score had Jackie Church's name a lot. Did she get Lindsey's minutes?

No, I don't think that would be the case. Jackie is one of our littles (a defensive specialist). I think Amanda Backes got most of those minutes with some going to true freshman Emily Andney in Set 3.

Edit: I was a little surprised that Kim Wadsworth did not get any PT.

Belmont forces a 5th set with a 25-18 win in Set 4. It will be interesting to see how Belmont's legs hold up as they are playing their 8th set in a 7-hour time frame.

Belmont was seemingly in control of the 5th set with a 14-11 lead but could not put Pitt away. The Panthers take Set 5 by an 18-16 score.

Belmont let both the 2nd and 5th sets get away from them late. Possibly there legs were tired at the end of sets after playing the Shocks earlier today while Pitt was playing there only match of the day.

In any case, Belmont kept Pitt on the floor about an hour longer and under more stress than they did the Shocks. Whether or not that will be to the Shocks advantage with a 9:00 a.m. CST start tomorrow remains to be seen.

Not sure what we will be up against in Pitt tomorrow morning. I thought Pitt would probably handle Belmont a little easier than they did (in fact, Belmont probably should have won that match). Could be that Belmont simply played better than they did against the Shocks, but that's a difficult assessment to make. Lambo did say in his post-game remarks that Pitt will be a more physical opponent than Belmont, although that may just have been coach-speak.

Pitt has a good all-time VB record with a 0.693 winning percentage since 1974. The have been to the NCAA Tournament 11 times with the last appearance in 2004. They finished 6th in the 15 team Big East last year and are picked for 8th this year.

They return only 2 starters plus the Libero from last year, and they lost a lot of production in the 3 starters they lost. They lost 3 of their top 5 attackers/blockers, their 3 toughest servers and their setter from last year so they have a little rebuilding to do.

The 2 returning attackers are solid in 6'1" Sr MH Meagn Dooley and 5'11" Jr OH Amy Town. Michelle Rossi is the returning libero and averaged 4.16 digs/set last year.

They are not a super big team at all. They have a 6'3" Freshman OH who did not play against Belmont. Of the players who saw time vs Belmont today Dooley is the tallest at 6'1" followed by Imani Harper (6'0" Jr OH), Rachel Kalberer (6'0", RS So OH), Amy Town (5'11" Jr OH), Lauren Hartman (5'11" Fr MH) and Melissa Stadelman (5'10" 5th Yr Sr OH).

Shocks would seemingly have an advantage in size and experience plus the Shocks had an easier match today with more time to recuperate for the early start tomorrow. Hopefully, they make good use of those perceived advantages.

I think we will miss Lindsey a lot this year. Emily Adney may hit hard but she needs to learn to hit smart. If she can learn to hit around blocks, she will help us this year. I'm sorry Kim didn't play; her experience might have been useful.

                  Arizona swept Louisville tonight 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.

However, the Shocks cannot afford a let down against either Pitt or Louisville.

Just looking at the stats, it looks like Steph T & Sarah M played the middle spots. From the stats, it looks like Katie Niggemeyer took Lilndsay E's minutes, right?

Emily and MEH play pretty much the entire match (6 rotation players). Stephanie, Katie and Sarah are very good along the front line, not so much in the back row. Melanie, Waldo and to a lesser extent, Jackie play in the back rotation.

Amanda filled in on the right, Adney just a bit. Adney will play more and more....she is big, physically talented and really, really good. Amanda will have to earn her minutes.

There's 10 players. I don't expect Kim to see much playing time at all. I don't know whose minutes she is going to take and we MUST get some of the kids some swings.

Our littles are fantastic. Waldo was a great find last year as a freshman and I've been looking forward to seeing Jackie play for a year. She did not disappoint. Melanie is about a half step behind Kelly Broussard, and she was about the best Libero in the country last year.

This is going to be a great team again this year BUT we have to develop some of the youth or we'll take a big step back next season.

We still will return non -seniors in Hooper, Waldo, Church and known quantities in Feekin, Adney and potential 5th year seniors in McKee and Backus so the cupboard is hardly bare but there will be work to be done.

Waldorf had some errors; I think Mel is much better. Nobody can compare with Kelly, of course.

Lindsey is not on your list for 2010. Any reason?

Sarah M will be back next year. (Don't know AB.)

5th year returning seniors are always going to have some degree of probability in not returning, whether anyone else wants to admit it or not.

Kelly Broussard seriously considered not returning for a 5th year. There are other things to do in life, our desire to watch them compete aside.

As for Lindsey, I think my stance regarding the probability of a full recovery, along with a return to full speed and an ability to compete with other returning athletes AND my above comment on 5th year seniors in general should explain why I did not not include Lindsey's name in next season's plan. If she contributes next year, in my eyes, it would be a pleasant and unexpected bonus.

                            ACL Injuries

Wu, I always greatly respect your opinions. On Lindsey's ACL injury, my son injured his ACL on one knee 3-4 yrs ago. He is 41 now & he plays amateur soccer & coaches both his kids, a son and daugher. Last year, he played on the Over 30 MO state amateur championship team, so he plays at a pretty high level. Soccer definitely puts a lot of pressure on his knees due to all the direction changes involved while running, but the point is that he had a successful ACL operation. He was back playilng soccer within a year after the injury, too.

WuDrWu: I understand and respect your opinion regarding Lindsey. However she has told me she will be back and she has probably told you the same thing. While "life happens" and things may not turn out the way one expects, I believe in honoring Lindsey's stated intention to return. I therefore will list Lindsey as a 2010 player until I hear otherwise.

x, I appreciate your sentiments, although I'm pretty sure I don't deserve them.

I am very happy to hear about your son. I do not want to beat a dead horse, but I am going to try one last time to clarify my reasons for concerns.

(Edit: Is anyone else having a problem with posting a long reply as you type? If you are you'll know what I am getting at.)
