Go Shockers - Wong Named to Canadian National Softball Team
CC Wong will take her talents to the global stage after earning a spot on the Canadian Women's National Softball Team, it was announced Tuesday afternoon by Softball Canada.
The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native is one of 21 athletes on the 2024 Team Canada roster. Team Canada is set to compete in the P5 Colorado event, hosted by Triple Crown Sports and College Sports Evaluation from June 26-28 in Fort Collins, Colo. Following the P5 Colorado Event, they will showcase their skills at the Canada Cup from July 1-7, in Surrey B.C.
Wong is just the second Shocker softball student-athlete to represent Wichita State on a National Team, and the first on Team Canada. Sydney McKinney was named to Team USA for the Japan All-Star Series in 2022.
The roster boasts a blend of seasoned and emerging talent, including six members from Canada's 2020 Olympic softball team and 13 athletes from the 2023 WBSC World Cup Group Stage, where their efforts secured Canada's spot in the World Cup Finals.
The team also includes 16 athletes who competed in last year's Canada Cup, while five new faces will make their debut for the Canadian Women's National Team.
The coaching staff made their selections after holding two regional identification camps and one final selection camp.

Addison Barnard Named AAC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Addison Barnard can add another "first" to her resume. Barnard has been named the 2023-24 American Athletic Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced by the league Wednesday morning.
She is the first Shocker softball student-athlete to earn scholar-athlete of the year honors since Wichita State joined The American in 2017. The Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) annually select 22 student-athletes (10 males, 12 females), one from each American sponsored sport, who will receive a post-graduate, post-eligibility financial scholarship of $2,000 and a trophy.
Last month Barnard was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Second Team, becoming the first Shocker to repeat as an Academic All-American. She was a First Team selection in 2022. She graduated in May with a degree in health science and a cumulative GPA of 3.82.
Barnard has been named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team every year and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.
She recorded her third season of 20 or more home runs in 2024, finishing with 93 in her storied career. Her 93 career homers rank fifth all time in NCAA history. She became the first player in NCAA history with 90+ home runs and 60+ stolen bases, earning All-America honors three of her four seasons at Wichita State.
Addie indeed casts a very large and all-encompassing shadow although I am sure no one is prouder of her than her sister Avery. Well, maybe Mom and Dad. I don't blame Avery one bit for trying to go somewhere she can more easily set her own course and not have to try to be her sister.
Addie's Shocker Bio is about as good as it gets: https://goshockers.com/sports/softba...n-barnard/7558
I wonder what Addie's numbers would have been if she had not had to play her Junior year with an injury that required off-season surgery.
When do you think the Shocks will retire #25 and #30?Last edited by 1972Shocker; July 10, 2024, 03:29 PM.

Report: Softball Star NiJaree Canady Signs $1M NIL Contract amid Texas Tech Transfer
Former Stanford softball pitcher NiJaree Canady has committed to Texas Texas after signing a one-year NIL deal worth more than $1 million, according to The Athletic.
The Athletic reported that a source close to negotiations said the previous highest known NIL deal for a pitcher in the sport was $175,000.
That good old oil money comes in handy.
