Going to eventually need to get some offensive production from SS and 2B. I know its early.

Having last weekend rained out didn't help. Having to essentially start the season against three top 25 teams is rough.

Only four games in so a lot can change.

CC is off to a strong start.

Addy and BUrbs have been strong.

Taylor and Sami have been okay.

Sydney, Lainee and Krystin have a lot of work to do.

Of those that haven't played as much, Mila has had the best results so far. I'm not sure what position she plays, but we may want to sprinkle her in a little more.

      Such little data though.

A short, quick look at Cloe's stuff up in the zone:

          That will work.

Addie looks like she has her old pop back where the ball just jumps off her bat.

Her biggest issue will be to get enough pitches to hit this year which will depend a lot on how the hitters behind her are doing this year.

So glad to see Burbs have any success with what she has been through. Hope she has a big final year as a Shocker.

The game preceding the Shocker game just ended at 441 pm. The Shocks' game will be a bit late starting.

                  Game Three

                  Shockers v #20 South Carolina

Lineups: CC, Addison, Sami, Bailey, Lainee, Taylor, Sydney, Mila dp, Krystin with Chloe in the circle. Vawter, another staff ace and the transfer from Stanford, is pitching for the Gamecocks.

CC singles on the first pitch of the game. Three outs follow. Three Ks for Chloe. Six swinging strikes, two called strikes, and one foul strike. No score after one.

I remember Vawter as a very nice pitcher. Not overpowering, but hit her spots and had a nice drop.

Sydney singles with two outs, but Mila fans to end the inning. A double, infield single, and a walk for South Carolina, and they have the bases loaded with one out. A double follows that scores three runs. Carolina leads 3-0 after two. Speaking of hitting spots, Chloe clearly can have issues with that.

CC doubles with one out, and Addie singles to left to move her to third. Sami singles to score CC with Addie stopping at second. Two ground ball outs follow. 3-1 in the middle of the third.

With two outs, Chloe hits a batter and wild pitches her to second, but there she remained. Gamecocks lead 3-1 after three complete.

Three quick outs for the Shocks in the fourth. Two outs for SC and then a walk on five pitches and another on four. Sigh. A swinging strikeout on a full count ends the inning. 3-1 after four.

Three up, three down for the Shocks again. Eight in a row for Vawter.

A single and a popup and Alison is in to pitch. Pitch count? 84. A double scores another run for SC. 4-1 after five.

Shockers tack on a run in the sixth. After singles by Sami and Bailey, a throwing error on Lainee's ground ball scores Sami.

A line drive out and a muffed throw at first start the Gamecock sixth. Alex is in to pitch. With the Shockers having an off day tomorrow, it appears HCKB is spreading the innings around. A single to third and the runner scores from first? Whatever. SC 5-2 after six complete.

Krystin leads off the seventh with a single, and CC follows with a double. Addie doubles them both home. 5-4 and hope springs eternal. SC brings in their stud freshman, Mardjetko. She is greeted by a bunt single by Sami. Runners at the corners with no outs. Bailey doubles both runners home. 6-5 Shocks in the middle of the seventh.

Alex is back in the circle. Double, hit batter, sac bunt. Chloe is back in. Walk loads the bases. Force at home and then the runner leaves first early for the last out of the game??!!

EDIT: More likely is that the runner thought the force at home was the last out of the game and left her base - "vacated" the base - becoming the actual last out of the game.

                  Shockers 6-5 South Carolina

Ten of the twelve Shocker hits came from the four at the top of the order: CC, Addie, Sami, Bailey with 3, 2, 3, 2. The box score, but not the LiveStats, correctly gives the win to Alex.

Glad to see Chloe getting another shot in the circle.

That's a pretty good start. Strike out, strike out, strike out.

Chloe with 8 strike outs in 4 innings but also 4 walks and a hit batter. Clearly she has good stuff. If and when her command improves and she learns how to pitch she would be pretty special.
