    • Great Job. Nice win over a team that has been playing well.

Held them to 3 aces when they have been averaging almost 2 per set. Got 2 aces against them, and only had 3 service errors. They had 10. Gabi had several lengthy service runs in the 1st and 2nd sets.

Our left side really shined tonight. Emmerson had her first error midway through the 3rd set. Ba's first and only error was a few points later.

UTEP had 6 blocks, Shockers got 4 blocks all in the first set.

      Emmerson hit .214 (11 5 28), 1 solo block and 2 block assists
      Sophia hit .263 (8 3 19)
      Frosty hit .364 (7 3 11), 1 BA
      Ba hit .333 (6 1 15)
      Swifty hit .273 (5 2 11) 2 BA
      Izzi hit .500 (2 0 4) 29 assists, 1 ace, 1 BA, 7 digs
      Webby hit 1.000 (1 0 1), 1 assist, 7 digs
Gabi had 4 assists, 1 ace, 12 digs
      Annalie had 3 digs
      Katie had 3 digs

      For the match, the Shockers hit .292 (20 14 89), UTEP hit .135 (38 23 111).

We also bid a fond farewell but not forgotten to Sophia, Webby, Big Mac and Kylie.

Thanks for the memories and best of luck to these young ladies in their future endeavors.

                          • Is this better than going 0-1 in the NCAA tournament? Like to hear both sides of argument.

To me, in terms of a "this season only" goal, the NCAAs are always preferred. But in terms of longer development, I can see how a deep run in a secondary tournament can be beneficial as well for those players who will return. We saw this with the basketball team in the early 10s.

                                Well that depends.

With SMU now gone, WSU should have the ability to legitimately win the conference year in and year out. That should be the “championship” we celebrate EVERY year.

This years team is transfers and upperclassmen. Not sure what a deep run into the NIVC did to actually develop any younger players in the program.

This year with the stated goal of many to get the NCAA tournament, we DID NOT accomplish that. All things being equal WSU went into the NIVC as the favorite and played to their seed. Well done.

The team still only won 7 sets against NCAA tournament teams this year.

                                Moving forward,

0-1 NCAA probably is s preceded by the AAC championship. That is a successful season.

An NIVC bid would mean a failed goal. The winning the loser’s bracket SHOULD only count once.

Had Lambo not continued to try a force an injured OH into the line up all season long, THIS team may have been 0-1 in the NCAA. The NIVC Championship will make that story be forgotten.
