What you can't see from the Twitter video is that the home plate umpire had rotated up towards 3rd base as the 1st baes umpire was rotating down towards home plate. The 1st base umpire looked like he got a late start to the plate and was only down to were the double line for the running lane starts, which is about halfway when the tag was applied and the home plate umpire was halfway up the 3rd base line when the tag was applied. So there clearly was no umpire in postion to make a call. Th e 1st base umpire was looking thrught the catcher and the home plate umpire was looking through the backside of the runner and wasn't really even turn totally around toward home.

Whether the umpire's misread the play or read it too slowley to react is hard to say. However, in the umpire's defense that play happened very quickly and and the two Shocker throws were so quick and perfectly executed (by 2 freshman players) that I could see that perhaps they would not anticipare that there could even be a play at the plate especially considering that the runner at 1st had already made it all the way to 2nd (but had stopped) when the ball ticked of Taylor Sedlacek;s glove on the warning track in right field.. And it was a bang, bang play that would have been a tough call even if the home plate ump had been behind the plate IMO (after watching the replays). The announcers even went back and forth on the call while looking at the replays they had. The big question was would there be a definitive enough view to overturn the safe call in the field.

Had Taylor managed to snag that ball she had a great shot at doubling up the runner from 1st.

Sydney is alone in 5th place now with 374 hits. She needs 5 hits to tie for 4th place. It's in reach but she may have as few as 2 games remaining, but let's hope it is significantly more.

OSU saw Alex for 8 innings in the April 18the game and she didn't exactly mow them down as she stranded 11 Cowgirls on the bases over 8 innings. The Nebraska win came at the end of a long game and with all the pressure in the world so it wasn't easy. Alex didn't exactly mow the Huskers down either giving up 7 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings and stranding 9 Nebraska runners. She surrendered 2 inherited runs and gave up a 3rd run when she came in the game in the 3rd. I guess living on the edte is kind off her style.

OTOH, Lauren and Alison gave up 7 runs to the Cowgirls in the April 4th game and Lauren wasn't very good against Nebraska

It would not surprise me to see all 3 in the OSU game today. Of course, if the starter is effective HCKB will ride them as long as possible. And on paper Alex would seem to give them the best chance.

In any case, you know the Cowgirls will be out for revenge. Plus the dynamics of playing in the regionals is totally different then a couple of mid-week games although I think OSU was really wanting to win that 2nd game on the 18th.

The arms the Cowgirls have at their disposal are quite good.
