  • #1 OU beat #16 Clemson 9-2 in Norman Super regional in Game 1 on Friday although both teams has 8 hits. OU out-homered Clemson 3-0 including a grand slam.

In game 2 on Saturday, the Sooners found themselves trailing 4-7 with 2-outs in the top of the 7th. OU had 2 runners on base but an 0-2 count on OU catcher Kinzie Hansen. Hansen must have been looking for a rise ball because that is what she got. It wasn't a bad pitch. At the letter on the outer half of the plate. But Hansen got on it and around it and drove it over the left field wall to tie the game.

Tiara Jennings lead off the 9th inning with her 2nd home run of the game and the Sooners 5th of the game as OU comes back to win 9-8 and advance to the WCWS.

The Cowgirls of #6 seed Oklahoma State had no problem with unseeded Oregon sweeping then in Stillwater on Thursday and Friday, 8-1 and 9-0 (6 innings) to advance to the WCWS.

#9 Stanford sweeps #8 Duke 3-1 and 7-2 in Durham to advance.

#3 Florida State sweeps #14 Georgia 8-1 and 4-2 in Tallahassee to advance.

#4 Tennessee sweeps #13 Texas in Knoxville 5-2 and 9-0 to advance.

#7 Washington seeps unseeded Louisiana 8-0 and 2-0 in Seatle to advance.

After losing Game 1 to unseeded San Diego State 4-3 on Friday, #15 Utah State rebounded for a 10-1, 5 inning rule rule today to force a game 3 on Sunday.

In Tuscaloosa #12 Northwestern beat #5 Alabama 3-1 but Alabama squeezed out a 2-1 win tonight to force a game 3 on Sunday.

So 6 of the 8 supers were sweeps with the following teams advancing:
    #1 Oklahoma
    #3 Florida State
    #4 Tennessee
    #6 Oklahoma State
    #7 Washington
    #9 Stanford

Unseeded San Diego State vs #15 Utah and #12 Northwestern vs #5 Alabama to be decided tomorrow..

    • Stanford seems pretty darn good to me. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them with a long stay in the WCWS next week.

      • In the 2 super regionals going to a 3rd game #5 Alabama edged #12 Northwestern 3-2 in probably the most competitive of the supers and #15 Utah beat unseeded San Diego 7-2.

So the 2023 WCWS field is set:

        Bracket 1:
#1 Oklahoma (will open against Stanford)
#4 Tennessee (will open against Alabama)
        #5 Alabama
        #9 Stanford

        Bracket 2:
#3 Florida State (will open against Oklahoma State)
        #6 Oklahoma State
#7 Washington (will open against #15 Utah)
        #15 Utah

Not sure if these match ups are setup in advance of the super regionals with each region locked in or how they come up with these. Matching up Florida State and Oklahoma State in the 1st game of bracket 2 seems odd.

It's got to be some sort of advanced setup (can't say seeding, as there is very little of that in these matchups).

I would have had something like:

          Bracket 1: #1 OU / #5 Alabama / # 6 OSU /#15 Utah (OU vs Utah / Alabama vs OSU)

          Bracket 2: #3 FSU / #4 Tenn. / #7 Wash / #9 Stanford (FSU vs Stanford / Tenn vs Wash)

They are by seeding. The #2 overall lost in the regional which allowed San Diego st to face #15 Utah in the super. In essence the winner of that super became the #2 seed. #9 Stanford beat #8 Duke in their regional so Stanford is basically the new #8. So the pairings become 1 v 9 (8), 4 v 5, 3 v 6, 15 (2) v 7. If you look at the actual bracket like the basketball bracket the pairings make more sense.

That should make everything clear as mud.
