In the grand scheme of things .. this tourney was largely irrelevant as we already won the important championship and had minimal chances of hosting. The big downside is no momentum with back to back losses going into the NCAAs

Addie made the choice to slide to the side. She still had every right to go straight into the base and opted not to.

Glad we’re putting a lot of money into a stadium to host regionals.

Yea, reading up, I agree. Addie could have slid directly and been safe and not been called for anything. Oh well.

It will matter in tournament seeding.

Eh. Probably will be a 2 seed in the regional (20 in RPI...it won't drop 12 spots for losing to a Top 100 team). If WSU gets sent to Stillwater or Fayetteville, it ultimately will be a moot point because WSU could have been sent there even with 2 wins this weekend. The girls also know that they CAN beat those teams, so they can carry some morsel of confidence into the NCAAs, though it certainly had to have taken a blow this weekend.

Getting sent to Norman will mean that Syd's Shocker career will most likely end next weekend.

That was my thought .. Unless we are sent to Norman now instead of Stillwater or Fayetteville, it's really no difference. Gotta beat them all anyways. Both OSU and Arkansas lost early in their tourneys too.

If Addie slides towards the base and the SS(?) blocks the base without the ball and Addie contacts her, it is obstruction and Addie is awarded the base. Sorry, but she has to know that.

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a rule banning defenders in softball from blocking the plate or base before they have possession of the ball, effective for the 2018 season.

The NCAA Softball Rules Committee believes this change is equitable for the base runner and the defensive team. Under the rule, a base runner will have a clear path to the base. Also, if the defender has possession of the ball and is in front of the plate or base, the runner can slide and have contact with the defensive player if the runner is making a legitimate attempt to touch the plate or base.

If a defender blocks the plate or base before gaining possession, the runner will be called safe. If the runner contacts the defensive player without making a legitimate attempt to slide, the runner will be called out.

Currently, the defender could block the plate or base while in the act of catching the ball. The rules committee felt the language was too ambiguous.

The rule change clarifies the rule and seeks to remove any gray area for plays of that nature.

Good to know. Addie was just being too nice and trying to avoid contact. Oh well.

Questionable approaches at the plate for some time now. And I don't care, the decision to have Addie bunt in the 1st inning with Syd on 1st was completely moronic (as was the decision to change her swing in the off season...some people, coaches especially, just cannot stay out of their own effing way).

If it were one or 2 I'd say slump, but it's basically the entire lineup struggling at the plate, and that's got to be coaching. The pitching continues to be good enough for the most part (much like baseball).

And there's always the chance they read too many headlines throughout the season, especially late, and got away from doing what they do best, playing softball.

Don’t think we will get sent to Norman but who knows..

Sour grapes flowing here, but single elimination is silly for softball or baseball.

However we are being pitched, it seems to be a trend other teams have locked in on. Usually we hit these lulls and then break out of them. Hopefully that we be the case.

Single elimination makes even less since for softball since pitching rest is way less of an issue. I don’t get that at all whatsoever.

Maybe so, but a strong finish to the season might have gotten us into a "weaker" regional like Fayetteville. As it is, were probably headed to OU or OSU and facing stronger top seeds with little chance to move on (hope I'm wrong).

It is not just finishing with back-to-back losses to KU and then Tulsa in the AAC tourney, but also weak 2-1 win in Tulsa in the regular season finale where we were outhit 5 to 9 after beating them 8-2 then 17-2. In our last 3 games, we had 5, 4, and 5 hits while our opponents went 9, 5, and 7 hits.
