Erin sets the Tigers down in order in the 4th. I am a little irritated with Steve Strain. I will get to that later.

In the bottom of the 4th Addie leads of with a walk. Not surprisingly that was pretty much a semi-intentional walk. None of the 4 pitches were anywhere near the strike zone.

Lauren rips a line single into right. I will say it again but Lauren is turning into Sydney Version 2.

Zoe nubs a slow roller off the end the bat to 3rd and just beats the throw (tie goes to the runner play) to load the bases for Neleigh.

    Neleigh walked, forcing in Addie.

Jenna Gibson comes on to pitch for Memphis.

Jessica hits a check swing single to right to score Lauren and keeping the bases loaded.

Lolo strikes out swinging on ball 4 up out of the zone.

Lainee lines a double to the left field cornering driving in Zoe and Neleigh and moving Jessica over to 3rd.

Wylie hits a bouncer up the middle that the 2nd baseman misplays. Looked like she starting to look up before she had secured the ball. Jessica scores and Lainee moves to 3rd.

Sydney slices a line drive to left that gets buy a diving leftfielder for a triple driving in Lainee and Wylie.

Memphis brings in Hallie Siems to pitch.

Addie grounds to grounded to a drawn in shorstop who went home to try to get Sydney at the plate but the throw was a little low and the catcher was unable.to make a tag.

Krystin Nelson who has been ill pinch hits for Lauren. Addie steals 2nd. Not sure about that when you are up by such a large margin. That stolen basel was Addie's 25th of the season tying the all-time Shocker single season record. Krystin strikes out.

Zoe Jones then line a ball over the shortstop's head that made it to the wall in left center for a double and driving in Addie.

Madyson Espinosa, pinch hitting for Neleigh, walked as did Jessica to reload the bases with 2 outs.

Lolo laces a line drive laser into the right field corner for a double scoring 2 more and moving Jessica to 3rd..

Caroline Tallent, pinch hitting for Lainee, is hit by a pitch to realod the bases.

Wylie lines one to left that gets the left fielder turned around but she managed to haul it in to finally end the Shocker at bat.

In case you lost track, which would be easy to do, the Shocks plated 11 runs in that at bat to extend their lead to 19-0.

Erin sets Memphis down in the 5th and in doing so pitches a 5-inning no hitter.

The reason I am a little irritated with Steve Strain he probably mentioned the no-hitter a half a dozen times in the final 2 innings. Not very traditional form Steve.

Nice job by Erin. Missed a perfect game by walking 2 in the 3rd inning. I would temper my praise just a bit. For one thing it was a very low-leverage 5 inning game that was heading to an early run-rule stoppage after the Shockers first at bat. And quite frankly this Memphis team is just not good.

Special congratulations to Head Coach Kristi Bredbenner who secured her 314 career win as Shocker head coach making her the winningest head coach in Shocker softball history.

Perhaps even more notable than the Shockers win over Memphis today is that Houston has ralled aftter trailing UCF 7-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th to take a 9-8 lead heading into the 7th inning in Houston. UCF gets an infield single to lead off the 7th. After a force out at 2nd base on a fielder's choice the UCF baserunner stole second but was thrown out at 3rd after the throw went into centerfield. A flight ball out to right field ends the game and the Shockers have a little help they were looking for.

UCF now leads the Shocks by one game in the AAC standings after their first loss of the season.

Now we know how Oklahoma feels except it is a regular thing for them. I think what it says mostly is that Memphis is not a very good softball team this year. I wonder how far back you would have to go to find a 3-game series where the Shocks won all three games in 5 inning run-rules.

The combined line score in these 3 games were as follows:

            Memphis 4 - 13 - 3
            Shockers 43 - 42 -3

The Shockers out-homered the Tigers 11-0. Of Memphis' 4 runs only 1 was earned.

Not wanting to ruin this thread, but someone needs to get out of that bunker MUCH more often. That's quite the "overhang". Wonder if he can see his feet?

Back to important things: Congrats Coach Bredbenner!! Congrats to the team!!

Gee, what a surprise that Addie was the AAC Player of the Week. Surely someone else in the AAC could have topped these numbers.

Barnard had a torrid week at the plate, hitting .667 (8-for-12) with a slugging percentage of 2.250. The Beatrice, Neb., native hit six home runs to go with a double, stolen base, 10 runs and 15 RBI in four games. She hit at least one homer in all four games, including two-home run games against Kansas and Memphis. She had at least two hits and two RBI in all four games, including five RBI vs. Kansas. She finished the week with a two-homer game and scored four runs in the blowout win of Memphis on Sunday. Over the weekend Barnard broke her own single season records for home runs and RBI, and is currently the nation's leader in home runs and RBI.
Admittedly, Addie wasn't facing the highest quality of pitching but still those are video game numbers. Actually, those are even crazy numbers for a video game.

Erin McDonald pitching her best of the season:

McDonald appeared in three games, making two starts in the circle. In 11.1 innings, she went 2-0 with a 0.62 ERA, allowing only one run on two hits and striking out 15. Her masterpiece came in the final game of the weekend series vs. Memphis where she threw her first career solo no-hitter. In 5.0 innings, she allowed just two baserunners, both via walk, to go with six strikeouts. It was the 19th no-hitter in school history. The Norman, Okla., native opened the week with a complete game win vs. Kansas. She gave up just one run on two hits and struck out seven. McDonald also threw 1.1 innings of hitless relief in Saturday's victory against the Tigers.
One thing that I noticed is that she seemed to have a better command of her rise ball. Keeping it close enough to the strike zone to be effective. Previously, seemed like she was having great difficulty with that pitch.

                              Polls

                              20/20 UCF
                              --/RV USF

                              and RPI

                              15 UCF
                              40 Shockers
                              42 USF

The Shocker weekend against ECU (171) is unlikely to help the RPI. (Although the weekend against Memphis did not hurt.) The weekend against UCF definitely will help. A couple of wins would help even more.

IMO the Shockers need to take 2 out of 3 from ECU although a sweep clearly would be much preferable.

Even though ECU and Memphis were tied for last in the AAC at 2-10 before this past weekend I expect ECU to put up much more resistance than Memphis did this past weekend. For one thing ECU is at home. ECU's 2 AAC wins are over Memphis. Interestingly, ECU's best performance in AAC play was their last series even though it was a sweep on the road at UCF. The scores in tht series were 1-0, 6-1 and 2-1.

Hopefully, the Shockers are locked and loaded for this coming weekend in Greenville.
