Shockers at Penn State

Set One

With LiveStats still stuck in the first set of the Hofstra-Holy Cross match and with me being unwilling to fork over any money for BTN, Mike is my only source for what is going on. He is mostly reliable, but as a one-man crew, he does miss some things. However, LiveStats may come alive at the start of this one.

Sophia in the starting lineup - in place of Brylee? The rest of the lineup is the same with Kara as the libero.

LiveState comes alive.

For example, Mike thinks there is a touch, but the LS say that Nicole was in the net. He can't see everything.

A Shocker lead of 10-9 becomes 10-17 before a kill by Sofia to stop the run.

Penn State scoring a bunch with their middles.

At 11-20 (including two illegal alignment errors), Lambo takes a TO. An extended discussion with the officials did not get them to change their minds about the alignment issues.

PSU takes the first set, 25-14.

The overlapping calls seem to have taken away whatever early momentum the Shocks may have had. Of course, it was probably mostly Penn State's superior talent coming to the fore.

Sophia looked pretty good in her 1st real action as a Shocker getting 2 kills on 4 attacks with no errors. Shocks passing continues to be less than ideal.

Set Two

Sophia again and not Brylee. Brylee was scoring well earlier, so is there an injury issue?

10-15 but no media timeout.

11-17 and a Shocker TO. Ever so often, PSU creeps another point or two ahead.

The PSU run that began at 11-15 continues to 11-22 before Sophia gets a kill.

A couple of kills by Nicole before PSU closes out the set at 25-14.

Set Three

Brylee starts this set.

4-12 and the Shockers take a TO. Sounds like serve/receive is pretty bad just now.

Another TO at 4-16.

The run started at 4-7 and goes to 4-16 before a kill by Brylee.

PSU take the third set and the match with a 25-7 win.

Sophia had five kills and four kills by Megan and Damadj.

Yes the passing has been really bad.

Shocks totally over-matched and totally overwhelmed. Not sure this match served any useful purpose other than proving we are clearly not ready for prime time. Not a total surprise but I though maybe we could score 45 points in this one. Only managed a paltry 35.

Post-match Comments

Kayce and Damadj never got connected.

But really, really, really happy with the weekend.

Sophia is someone they need on the court on the right side, but they will probably have to come up with an out-of-the-box rotation.

Maybe some other stuff. They seem to cut the visit short because of the pep band.
