Arianna comes out of the TO with her hair in a bun of sorts. Nope, that was not the answer.

Attack and kill by Kayce! On a bump from just beyond the three-meter line with her back to the net.

Hofstra wins 25-16 after trailing 6-9.

Hofstra serve first.

Tied at 6 before a service error and an attack error. Shockers 8-6 and we switch ends.

Sophia subs in for Sina. And back out - in for blocking apparently.

Sina scores on a power tip and a service ace. 11-9.

Hofstra serve into the net but it manages to crawl over for an ace. 12-12 and Lambo takes a TO.

If the Shocks lose that Hofstra serve that somehow rolled over onto the Shockers side could be the deciding factor.

Found a way. These ladies do compete. We've got to get the passing game figured out though. When our setters got even an average pass we usually got a good swing. 2-0 Shocks!

That was a tough one. Will be interesting to see what Lambo thinks.

Hofstra outscored the Shocks 104-94 but the Shocks bunched their points enough to take 3 sets.

The Shocks have gotten what they needed to get out of this weekend.

I think Lambo was pretty pumped about getting this win even though we had a lot of problems.

Overcame Hofstra's firepower and scoring advantage by outhitting them in sets 1, 3 and 5 rendering our poor play in sets 2 and 4 somewhat moot.

Post-match comments

It wasn't pretty, but they played hard.

Got beat on the pins. Though Hofstra had the best hitting % for the match, the Shocks had the best % in three of the sets and that translated to a win.

A huge win over a team that will probably have 25 or so wins and will win their conference. [I take that to mean a "huge win" for RPI purposes.]

One thing this Hofstra match did was eliminate any doubt about how much we will miss Gio this season. That would be a lot.

I will give Kara a little credit though. She got us off to a good start in set 5 with a perfect pass on the opening serve of the 5th set that lead to one Megan's better kill attempts of the match. Psychological that had to give the Shocks a bit of a boost.

Another thing we found out is we won't be redshirting Sophia but is there really any reason to player her against Penn State? I would think not.

Lambo said Nicole Anderson has the best Volleyball IQ on the team. She got her first career double-double with 10 kills with a team high .267 hitting % plus 16 dogs after just missing a double-double against Holy Cross. I don't thik this will be her last one. Nicole also added 4 block assists.

Emma wasn't much of a factor on offense but she had 2 block solos and 5 block assists.

I think the Shockers probably benefitted from geting these first 3 matches in the order they have been.

It's one thing to have a young team and something altogether again to have a young team and without Gio.
