  • Kansas Talent for Class of 2012

With the season right around the corner, I thought now to be a good time to talk about all the local talent in KS in the class of 2012.

Perry Ellis: Possible McDonalds AA from Heights.

Gavin Thurman: 6-7 PF, Southeast; getting attention from the MVC and Big 12

Jalen Love: 5-10 PG, East; looking at the MVC.

Other possible D-1 prospects from the City League are:

    Nathan Jackson: 6-4 wing, East

    Spencer Gaels: 6-8 C, Northwest

    June Johnson: 6-3 SF, Northwest

    Craig Nicholson: 5-7 PG, Northwest

    Terrence Moore: 6-1 G, Heights

    Kevin Gunter: 6-6 F, Southeast

Anyone that has seen more HS basketball than me, please comment on this impressive Junior class.

Add 6-6 PF Clint McCullough from St. James Academy

Probably will be Sunrise kids to add to that list.

There is obviously a great deal of talent in the city this year and apparently other colleges have noticed as many have been to open gym to watch these kids this year. Alot of these kids play on the same AAU summer team KC Pump N Run. These are the schools that have been in town for open gym to watch these kids and are actively recruiting them.

Gavin Thurman Wichita SouthEast KC Pump N Run- Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri St, Central Michigan, Tulsa, Drake, UMKC, K St, OU, Georgetown

Jalen Williams Wichita East Kc Pump N Run- UMKC, Clemson

Spenser Gales- Wichita NW Kc Pump N Run- Cornell,

Craig Nickolson- Wichita NW Kc Pump N Run- Clemson, Drake, Western Kentucky, San Francisco, Cal Irvine, Missouri St

Kevin Gunter Wichita SE, Kc Pump N Run- UMKC, Georgia Southern ,

      June Johnson Wichita NW- Clemson

Terrence Moore Heights- North Texas, Nevada

Nathan Jackson Wichita East, SpieceMo Kan- Georgia, Rice.

Clint Mccullough St. James Academy Spiece Mo Kan- Missouri St, Kst, UNI

It has been a long time since we have had this many kids in one class with this type of potential. Obviously these kids have impressed coaches around the country as they have been in town to see these kids. Exciting time and hopefully the Shocks are able to get a couple of these kids to stay home

Was the Clemson coach by any chance Earl Grant? (That is where he went, wasn't it?)

If you remove Clemson, then most of these guys seem to a attracting Low and Mid-Major schools. That said, it is very early, and most of these fellas will have an opportunity to play DI basketball.

The question is, which ones do we REALLY want to be Shockers. I will be very disappointed to see more than one escape to an MVC foe. This year will say a lot about where these kids end up...BCS, MVC, or UMKC. Ideally we would be able to sign Perry (unlikely), Gavin Thurman, and one or two more. Gavin is a potential top 150-200 range prospect depending on if he is closer to 6-8 than 6-6. I haven't seen Gaels or Gunter, but they could end up being big kids.

            We'll see...

Yes it is very early, these players have two more years of high school ball and one more upcoming AAU season which will be huge. Recruiting is about building relationships and it appears that there are alot of schools doing just that with alot of local kids.

If these players do develop to be as good as some are projecting I just want some to stay here and not go and play somewhere else.

Regardless of how they develop if these kids can have an oppurtunity to get a free education and play D1 ball. Then im cheering for the local kids.

                A few updates per Rivals:

                Jackson listed at 6-5

                Love listed at 6-1

Conner Frankamp (PG, Class of 2013 from Kapaun) is being recruited by MU and KU.

Maybe someone can educate me. When was the last time wsu signed a top 100 or top 150 recruit. I thought wsu Normally gets those under the radar type guys and develop them like a JT durley.

I probably have the school wrong.

On a side note, I am of the strong belief that Perry Ellis's mother needs a new job. His dad needs a new tractor, and he needs a Lexus with a duffle bag full of cash!

I asked John Callapari and Bruce Pearl and they said it was okay.

                              Sean Ogirri.

KJ and Stutz were both just outside the 150 on Rivals. They would get some talk as others to watch types.
