Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Dickie is the guy that was so nice to give his input several times earlier in this thread.
If a coach being a family man is important, then Gregg has and will make a big statement. As stated many times, the important thing is for Johnny to make the best decision for himself and his family. Then everything else will fall into place.

But I still think we have an excellent chance.

Actually, I think this is more a test of Coy's judgment than anything else. I think he has a good chance of being picked in the MLB draft again even if he doesn't play baseball for three years. However he'll be drafted lower, be rusty and have less margin for error if he goes to Drake instead of WSU.
The judgment issue is the following: Does he go with the "easy" choice of Drake, where he gets along well with the coach and fits right into Bucky Cox's spot, or the "tough" choice of WSU, where the basketball team is doing poorly and Gregg and Gene are going to push him to improve? The "tough" choice probably results in better career options and more improvement over the course of his stay in college. The "easy" choice is easier. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

Good question. (I don't know the answer but I think it disappeared when he didn't sign.)
Summer ball is not the same as D1 baseball on a Top 10 or Top 20 team. ASU would have worked out great for him and WSU would work out great too. With respect to baseball, I don't think Drake is a good choice. He'll get a shot at baseball no matter what; however, the higher you're drafted, the longer they will keep you around to prove yourself.
ADED: I may have misunderstood your question. I thought I read that he could still play basketball if he signed with the Phillies. I don't know if there was an informal "deal."Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

As I recall, the Philies were going to let him go to college and play basketball. He had to play baseball only when college wasn't in session.
Coy was offered 3rd round money and that deal and turned it down. I can come up with several reasons for turning it down. It minimizes his chances of progressing in either sport and it leaves absolutely no time for family.
Coy's summers have to be a factor no matter what school he chooses. His summer choices are a) Save some time for his family. b) Play summer ball. c) Basketball conditioning on campus.
Tough choices. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
