I'm going back a few years but he reminds me of Karl Papke. Good inside, outside game, and in transition.

I see what you're talkin' about, however he appears to have a larger frame than Karl.

not to stray from basketball but ............

I imagine he has some power in his swing? Anybody know?

I just assumed he was a pitcher being 6'7" and all but noticed he was drafted as an 3rd basemen. For some reason when I think of a college baseball player that tall or close to that tall I think of the Minor twins of OU back in the early 90's.

It appears one of his family members dropped by DrakeNation.

In doing a little research, the person who made the post (Coy's older brother) is an assistant coach for Jim Heinrich, who was Garrett Stutz' high school coach last year.

I hope we get Coy. He sounds just like the 3 man we need. He obviously can score, and has good all around stats from High School.

I hope that Gene and Brent also get their 2 cents in when he visits, and show him Eck stadium. If he wants to be high level in both sports, we are the place for him.

Here's an interesting post by his brother from several months ago. I found this quote interesting...

I wrote e-mails to every school in the Midwest describing a 6’7 Junior guard who was averaging 26 a game with 12 boards, 6 blocks, and 4 assists a game. He was also a very good three point shooter, passer, and ballhandler. Wichita State was the only school to answer my e-mails and actually made the trip to St. Joseph. I even wrote Drake and never received a response.

Thats interesting, but his brother took the time to write a long letter to the Drake board which makes me think DU is in the drivers seat right now. 8)

Well, his brother had posted there before when Phelps' name surfaced for the Drake job. He also mentioned that the school having a "top 10 baseball program" will play a factor.

I actually think that we might be in the driver's seat. Think about what we offer Coy. A good friend is already on the team in Stutz...we have a coach that knows how to win and that can recruit. We offer an elite baseball program with elite facilities for both sports. I love our chances.

He made several posts in the past on the Blue jay board.
                                Johnny still picked Arizona State.
