While a redshirt is very possible, if he's on the team, he will make the floor. We are still in the MVC so there will be plenty of blow out minutes to go around

At very minimum...He will be out there for shocker madness and probably the exhibition :)

From what I have found I see very little video showcasing his passing. I understand that is the way of most highlight reels. I would love a link.

I see no PG potential at all. His ball handling is awful. Look for when Austin drives and constantly watches the ball. His head is down for nearly the entirety of the game. Look for his dribble-to-shot action, he often has to take an extra second to gather the ball. The passing is a question just because I haven't seen much. Same with FVV's video -- it's commonplace to leaves those out, or to not pass when your a talented HS player.

Austin's hope is that he gets coached by our ball confidence guro, and cracks the 2 and 3 spots. He is aballer for sure. However, Landry is inmeasureably better with the ball and the pass. There's no future for Austin as the head of WSU's ship.

Your analysis is spot on for a guro, Marshall should hire you on the spot to wash Austin's jockstrap!

Care to link the video you are referring to? I just watched two and saw no instances where his head was down and no instances that showed lack of ball handling. I saw a quick ball release and two great passes in the first 20 seconds of a highlight.

Can't recall the exact video. Here is one by ARShocker. The moment his looks at the floor gets really noticeable is at 50 seconds and on. I think he even had to re-calibrate after a simple behind the back move. He scans the floor after he picks up his dribble, but is looking directly down when the ball is live. As for the grasping for the off-the-dribble shot, you can see the fumbling a 1:37. Granted he nails the shot. Off the dribble is very difficult to do, but is the sign of great ball handling. It is an unfair comparison to watch him and FVV, but FVV had ZERO trouble with any dribbling, or off the dribble shots. You can watch FVV Senior year Rockford highlights and see the same FVV scoop dribble and pull. It's amazing to go back and watch, actually.

Like I said, I would love to see a video where he passes. I've seen very few.

AR - nearly always looking at the ground.

FVV - almost never looks at the ground.

Can see what you saying about vanvleet but at his height he gotta keep his head up to see the court. Reeves is a lot taller and even though his head is down can't see where his eyes are. However I don't see him as having super handles. Didn't dee anyone playing good defense against in these videos. As much as I hoped he would and wish he had I didn't feel like frankamp was going to be what we hoped. Have the same feeling about this guy. However I'm keeping my high hopes for both.

There are a couple videos on here to look at. I'm sure they wouldn't put him getting his pocket picked in the highlights, but he appears to be dribbling through, around, and past multiple defenders on several occasions. The 73 point clip is against the 5a state champs, so, even if they didn't ply great defense (and they didn't) they were a pretty good team.
As for shooting holes in videos, did FVV use his left hand ONE time when he came in from the left? I hadn't seen this clip before, but the lack of left hand jumped off the screen at me.
I'm not sure anyone knows how Reaves will transition to D1 ball, but he appears to have the motor, the basketball iq, and the height to be a good one. Hope it works out for the young man!

                    • Perhaps we would should just give the young man the chance and time to develop and see what he can do at Wichita State which is clearly a huge step-up in competition for Austin. Obviously, Coach Marshall and Coach Lindsted saw enough in him to justify extending him a scholarship offer and those guys have a little bit of experience in evaluating talent.

Personally, I hope if Austin does not go the Sunrise route, which at this time he won't unless someone else is added to the incoming recruiting class, that he takes a redshirt year to work on his body and his skills and adjust to college life in the "big city".

If Austin proves he is ready to contribute next year then great. He will play. Either way those decisions will be made by people with far more real world inputs than any of us will ever have.

Part of the fun of college basketball is watching these young players grow and develop. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Austin over the next 4 or 5 years.

Landry is 3-4 inches taller than FVV and is able to scan the floor while dribbling. It is an essential skill to being a passer....you know... being able to see them. One thing different from AR an CF is that AR hasn't shown if he can rack it on 6.8 post players. We know now that CF is shy at the rim with 6.8 Centers.

AR has potential to be a starting 2 or 3. His ability after picking up his dribble is very close to a Ron Baker. But AR will never be at the helm.

                        • Kid hasn't signed yet and some people look at a video against high school competition and already have decided what he will never do. I'd advise to take a break from the Shocker internet but he's only made 7 posts. I will readily admit that I have no idea what Gregg has in mind for him but he must like his game.

People that are questioning this kid will eat their words this is by far the best kid I have seen on film since we signed cleanthony. AR is a cross between shawn Livingston and Gordon Hayward. He has a different type of handle than fred but he is also 5-6 inches taller. I fully except him to be a multi year starter and an all league type player.

That kind of optimism can lead to disappointment. It might be better to watch a player for a year or 2 in D1 ball (instead of 2A HS ball in Arkansas), before pronouncing him an All-Valley player.

We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
