  • When he gets here, he needs to have number 15. AR-15 would be a great nickname.

ARShocker, how does Austin fare against bigger athletes at the AAU level? A lot of his shots had fairly low trajectories, admittedly due to him shooting over shorter players.

Like others, I can't wait to see this young man in the yellow and black!
He did fine in AAU. Scored 30 in the finals of the GASO

      • I love watching that highlight tape. My biggest takeaway is that he can really "feel" the defense. Good shooters aren't uncommon, good finishers aren't uncommon, but it is the combination that might make him special. His mid-game popped to me. Saw a couple of pull-ups, couple of mid-attack crossovers, and even a floater. No surprise that he can put up points with such a well rounded game...

Got any stud 7 footers down there that are looking for a home and might relish the opportunity to play alongside Austin? :)

          • I like that the highlight video showed off his all around game. Dunks, threes, midrange, finish in traffic, PASSING!, BLOCKS!

Maybe it's just that the guy who put the highlight video together is smart enough to not just show his layups and dunks but this kid seems to have an all around game.

He's tall and he can shoot. That's about all I can tell from the few videos I saw. I'd like to see him about 50# heavier with a vertical jump higher than the phone book. LOL. He may have it, just couldn't see it in the video. 7'3" and doesn't graduate until 2018 though, he could grow into that height and be pretty intimidating.

                • It looks like Austin will be pretty good, but don't get too caught up by what you see in these videos. I know he's played well against some 5A schools, but the players that he's played against in these recent videos look like they are at most D-2 players. We'll have to see how he does against D-1 players when he gets here.

Kind of like Ron's competition in Scott City...

Its the skills that impressed me. The step backs, the clutch shots, the power at which he finishes etc. Those type of things should translate well. He may be playing against better competition, but will also have better teammates. Multiple times he was finishing with 3 or 4 people guarding him. He wont have to do that in DI. I also don't think we will see him at point. He will be a dangerous SG.

I personally thought the same thing. He just happens to play point in HS because his team needs him to have the ball so often.

But I do think he might run both. Just not sure which one he'd do more.

His comparisons to Baker extend to this debate IMO. He will be a good SG that can play point if needed.

                          • Austin is a PG. Yes he can score. But that's not what he does best. The things you can see on tape are what he does best. He has to score for his team to win.
