  • I like Ty Taylor. I was down on him for a while because he doesn't have a clue how to play the point, but that kid can put the ball in the bucket. AS HCGM always says, we need makers. I don't know who will leave, but obviously there will some shuflling of scholarships next year.

    • Interesting to read Hogville. Half their fans are upset MA never showed much interest in the kid. Others have hope he will and Austin will change his mind and stay in state. And then you have the rest who exclaim he may never even qualify for D1 basketball due to low ACT scores. I wonder if MA does start to show interest if Austin will be lured by temptation.

According to the poster in this thread that knows him and accompanied him on his visit here, he doesn't want to be a razorback

I have no reason not to believe this. Everything I've seen or read makes me believe he'll stand by his commitment and be a big part of carrying Shocker Nation into the next great era.

I'm in the same place with Ty. The more I think about it, the more I want to see him stick. I really hate losing players to transfers. Sometimes it's just inevitable, but 3G's system takes some players longer to adjust in order to be a piece of the puzzle. Of course, that's why some of our youngsters move on and it's almost always a mutual decision.

But I think we also have high expectations for the new players to quickly assimilate and become bona fide contributors immediately. I think it's exceedingly rare for a freshman to come into Gregg Marshall's program and have that immediate impact. It took almost half the season for Markis to earn significant playing time but there was a more immediate need to get him on the court. That's not to say Markis wouldn't have made it on the court eventually but my point is that we needed someone at the 3/4 who could stretch the defense similar to what Cle did and Markis fits that mold.

Other than when Fred went down, and once Frankamp became eligible, Marshall hasn't had to rely on another body at the point. It is interesting that he went to Ty fairly quickly once Fred went down rather than go to John Robert Simon who has proven to be an acceptable alternative.

              • Zach Brown is another good example. Halfway through his freshmen year people were saying he's on the short list. He really came alive the last 1/4 of last year and started every game this year.

Was just getting ready to post that. He tied his opponent singlehandedly!

I gather Coach K was a bit pleased, no?

                    • Had a client of mine, who by no means is a Wichita state hater, but came out saying that Marshall would leave with baker and Fred, I kindly laughed it off, bit my tounge, but this kid is one of many reasons to feel confident that Gregg ain't going no where

We appreciate these updates. It is amazing Austin can score like this when his foes are doing everything possible on defense to stop him. WOW!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

                          • CEDAR RIDGE 86,
JESSIEVILLE -- Osceola made the most out of its return to the Class 3A boys state tournament Tuesday, but Coach Frankie Gathen wasn't at all satisfied.

                            MCGEHEE 59

Wichita State signee Austin Reaves almost single-handedly sent Cedar Ridge into the second round, scoring a game-high 57 points, including 31 in the second half, to help Cedar Ridge eliminate McGehee and win its 27th game in a row.

Cade Crabtree scored 13 points for the Timberwolves (32-3), who led 44-29 at halftime but used Reaves’ 18 third-quarter points to distance themselves. Cedar Ridge shot 30 of 59 for the game and outrebounded the Owls 33-23. The Timberwolves will play either Valley Springs or Lamar on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the second round.

Taiwan Collins led McGehee (16-15) with 21 points. Charles Hargraves finished with 13 points and De’Wayne Railey had 12. The Owls did claw their way to within 46-34 early in third quarter, but didn’t have an answer for Reaves and couldn’t generate enough offense to keep pace. McGehee finished 22 of 50 for the game.
