Most on here use to say what a slow learning curve big men have.....Miller, Stutz. Now many, not saying you, expect a lot more as freshmen and sophomores.

How many 6'8", 230 pound freshmen have we seen doing this:

    • Two points:
      1. Hamilton may not play many important minutes this year. BUT he may have the highest ceiling of all the 4s. He has a world of talent, shooting ability, athleticism, and size, but he is like a wild stallion. Hamilton needs to refine his game, learn the system (offense and defense), and learn how to play but if he does, he could be our best 4 next year.

      2. Where McDuffie plays could depend on his ability to gain weight and strength. If he would get up to 220 lbs. we want our best 5 players on the floor and a 4 trying to guard him wouldn't be fair.

      • Hamilton and Taylor will see more play the rest of the year, but marshall purposefully played a smaller roster against tougher opponents. It doesn't mean they aren't options but he wanted more experienced/prepared players in those match-ups. I think we'd have still seen them if those games weren't must wins and it doesn't look like they are in the doghouse or anything. I think minutes will be absolutely scarce next year.

Taylor has far more upside than Henderson ever did.

            • IMO, Conner, Ty, and Hamilton are big upgrades over Ri'an, Corey, and Tevin. All three have what it takes to be starters. All three have work to do. Thus far Markis and Landry are the true gems. Who knows about Allen.

Above, I suggested Markis at the four in order to get the 5 best players on the court. I agree that he could certainly play the 2, but he's most ideally suited for the 3 (like Brown). Markis, with some weight, has more upside at the stretch 4 than Brown. Shamet is ideally suited for the 2, but could certainly play the 1 or 3. From a size perspective, we could certainly go big (and quick and skilled) with Shamet, Brown, McDuffie, Hamilton, Willis. That line-up, however leaves three 6-0ish guards on the bench and I see it being more likely that the wings all move down a spot to allow room for one of our quick guards at the point.

If you don't think playing WITH Fred doesn't have it's advantages over trying to fill his spot as a raw freshmen...well. No way Ty was trying to be the man. He was trying to do his best with what little he knows so far, but with what best skills he believes he has at the time. Yes, I agree that what was being ask of Conner is less than if there was no Fred. Ty backing up Fred may very well look a lot more like Conner. Did I mention Conner's experience as a 3rd year soph and NCAA tourney play? Right now, that is why Conner is running the offense better (and that probably will continue in the future).
Don't forget that Shaq was MIA, no Nurger. The bigs were generally non existent in FLA. That didnt help Ty.

Not saying he was great, but Ty was put in a very difficult spot. Had he performed well, then he would be a stud!

I give you credit for sticking to your viewpoint. Ty, in my view has a future here at WSU. He is a talented youngster and just needs to learn how to make others better and play a better team game, especially if he wants to play the point guard. This is no fault of his. As Marshall said tonight on his show, he just wasn't ready for Florida. If he is patient, and has the right attitude to accept criticism and wants to grow, he will become a very good player.

TCC won on the road at GSU 70-64 earlier this year despite a poor game from Daishon (4 pts, all from the FT line).
