I'm wondering whether either Rauno Nurger or Tyrone Taylor will be here next year. I think Austin Reaves agrees to sign with the Shockers but goes to Sunrise prep for a year due to academic concerns.

If any of these things happen, there would be room for Marcus Ottey.

Thoughts?

It's hard to tell. Someone always leaves and Ty has been deep on the bench as has Hamilton and Rauno. If coach thinks Ottey is better than one of his current scholarship players and Ottey wants to come, then it will happen.

I am sure this guy is a good prospect, however, unless there are a couple vacancies in the
back court, IMHO, we should focus on keeping RN and EH both of which have good upside
potential. If we end up with a scholie I hope we hold out for someone 6'9 260 or 6'10 and
above rim protector/rebounder. With CF. DS, LS, and PA I think we have the back court
pretty well covered for a couple years - and TT if he can learn the mentality of a PG

Just a reminder, hoops: right now, assuming the new signees all qualify, the Shocks have 13 players who would be able to be here next year, although two (Frankamp and Allen) aren't on scholarship this season. They also have one unsigned commitment in Austin Reaves.

That makes 14 players for 13 scholarships, which means that for Ottey to be here next season, two of the 14 potential players currently accounted for (or Ottey himself, somehow) would have to not receive scholarships -- and that's assuming no additional scholarship recruits materialize. So that's a lot of assumptions and ifs that would have to work out. It's certainly possible, and we've seen some unexpected (by us, anyway) maneuvering before, so who knows? But there's no question that some things would have to happen for space to open up.

Even if Reaves went to Sunrise and Ottey came here, we'd still be one scholarship over. I think there will be at least one player that doesn't come back, no matter what happens.

Don't forget that there is still the possibility that someone pays their own way (doesn't get a scholarship). I don't know if it's a realistic possibility or not, but I haven't heard that it's not, and we've seen such creativity before.

Don't forget that there is still the possibility that someone pays their own way (doesn't get a scholarship). I don't know if it's a realistic possibility or not, but I haven't heard that it's not, and we've seen such creativity before.

While the scholarship limit is 13, the "suit up" limitation is 15. HCGM has somehow managed to get incredible players (Armstead, CF, Baker, etc.) to pay their own way either their whole time here or partially. That said, at some point, you have a scholarship-worthy player, paying their own way to not get to travel to away games and not suit up for home games. With the current situation, we're more likely to see players leave or utilize Sunrise.
