  • So, as far as I can tell, he hasn't signed yet. I will literally laugh my ass off if he leaves without signing. Even if he eventually does end up at UK, I will laugh at all the idiots that assumed that because Cal "hinted that they may be signing Humphries", it was truth. When will they ever learn that he is a silver tongued serpent?

    • He can't actually sign until November.

I don't think that's true if he is able to get reclassified, which is what (if I understand correctly) he's trying to do. Even if he couldn't actually sign until then, he'd still be able to "commit" if he wanted to.

        • IF he reclassifies he'll be "signed" when he signs a financial agreement with the school, which can happen at any point now.

Fwiw, my understanding was that we couldn't get him reclassified, which essentially means he couldn't pass the NCAA clearinghouse. I would speculate if he couldn't for us, he couldn't for UK.

Without going into too much detail, it would seem unlikely he can reclassify unless something else is in play (certainly is possible).

Hence why he went to visit the place that would "help" get him reclassified. Oh coach Cal...you're too much man.

            • It of course had to happen on Friday night. While I was in the far Western part of Kentucky for Fancy Farm, eating with the KSR crew at Patti’s Settlement (which is really, really good), the news that we have hinted at for a number of weeks finally broke. Kentucky is looking to add big […]

Probably won't be official for a couple of week when he is eligible to reclassify, if they know what they are talking about. I imagine they do.

              • That article just oozes disrespect for Humphries in my opinion. They even list the plan A and plan B guys who went elsewhere and make mention of the fact that UK fans aren't that excited. It even says he is a good fit because he won't be a big deal right away so he shouldn't scare off recruits too much.

                Maybe I'm over sensitive

I agree 100%. The fact that they act like they were the first to know that he was trying to reclassify is also humorous to me. If Doc is right that we couldn't get him through the NCAA clearinghouse and UK can, then it just becomes even more obvious who the NCAA plays for. On the other side, I will still laugh my ass off if he walks away from this visit and never looks back. I am becoming less and less hopeful with each article I see, but I still hold onto a glimmer of hope that he ends up in Wichita.

                  • Sounds like time for another attack of retweet (or link) guerrilla warfare.

People who criticize WSU fans as arrogant come off sounding a little mid-majorish themselves, because you don't know big time arrogance until you watch Kentucky, or Chickenhawk, or even Texas football (although the latter have had some big-time reality checks lately) fans for a few minutes. They literally believe they can have -- and are entitled to -- any recruit they want, and that the players should be overwhelmed with gratitude even to be considered.

Some players get caught up in it; others don't. It would be nice to think Humphries doesn't -- but regardless, in the end Marshall seems to do fine with whichever ones don't, because they're the ones more likely to Play Angry than to Play Sleepy.

                    • I'm not going to be upset at all if he chooses Kentucky. WSU is toe-to-toe with the blue blood elites of college basketball in many regards now, and it's awesome. I guess I'm a glass half full type of guy, but these last two recruiting cycles WSU has shown a huge elevation in the level of talent that is trying to be landed, and we've landed a few of them too.

6 years ago, if I would have told you that we'd be toe-to-toe with Kentucky on a legit international 7 footer would you take it?

This is a great post. And while I also won't be surprised or upset if he chooses UK, I will be a little disappointed. Mostly because I just want to see one of these kids give UK the finger, and not for another blue blood, but also because if we can't get him reclassified, and they can, then they are obviously playing by a different set of rules than we are.

                        • I think he will ultimately be disappointed if he chooses UK, unless he likes being on the scout team.

                          • I also think he will end up being disappointed if he chooses UK, but for different reasons. IMO,the kid is good enough to earn minutes, even at UK. Will he be an immediate starter, probably not, but at UK, you don't have to be a starter to get drafted. I just honestly believe that he would be better coached and better prepared for the next level if he ended up somewhere like WSU. Cal/UK recruit their best teams. HCGM coaches his best teams. Big difference.

                            • I was gonna say that I hope he doesn't Perry Ellis himself. But I am actually more concerned that he would be Conner Frankamping himself. He will likely continuously be overshadowed by whoever the next "one-and-done" they recruit is. Even up to his Senior year, an Andrew Wiggins is likely to come along and it's "See ya Isaac, hardly new ya."

Couple the fact that Marshall leans heavily on his upperclassmen and we need a young baller at Center _right now_, he will have an AMAZING career if he comes here.

                              • Even if this /is/ Kentucky we're looking at I can't imagine Coach Marshall just backing off a recruit in deference to the Big Blue Nation taking over on a recruit that a lot of their fans think is second or third best. I feel bad for Perry Ellis when I read how some fans treat him and this is another one that just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I know the recruitment of Humphries by WSU was pretty quiet but it wasn't so quiet that some media sources like USA today had caught on to it. I also think when this young man knows for sure where he is going, he will twitter it like so many do. He went totally silent on his twitter about the time he visited our state. :)
