I'm thinking that Brown will see playing time at the three as well (and probably some at the four). Mulder is probably more athletic than Wessel, but HCGM has shown that he is loyal to hustle players, so I'm thinking that Wessel will be difficult to dislodge. As a result, it may be difficult for Mulder to get playing time.

That would mean our real need is for a proven big man, as I think we are a little thin at the 4/5.
The logical choice is big man that knows how to play both ends well.... Not a liability on either side...

Interesting, wufan, and good luck in your hope. But as skilled at recruiting as Marshall and Co. are, there's a Grand Canyon between recruiting the proverbial lunker and signing him.

One thing I don't understand in any case is why WSU would be engaged in a secret recruiting project -- can anyone enlighten me?

Only thing I can come up with would be this:

If you are recruiting 2 people for the same position, lets say PF:

        Recruit 1:
        5 Star
        10th Ranked
Chance of landing when recruiting alone: 10%

        Recruit 2:
        4 Star
        80th Ranked
Chance of landing when recruiting alone 50%

If you are publicly chasing Recruit 1, then Recruit 2 might either A: Hold off on committing until he sees what recruit 1 does or B: Committ to another school where he will be the "top recruit" and not have to worry about the chance of a guy signing just a few weeks later that will take his playing time. If you don't think you have a good chance of landing the "reach" candidate, you dont want to screw up your 2nd option who is still an extremely solid candidate.

        Just my opinion

There are no secret recruiting projects, it just comes down to if the recruit wants to put his business out there or not. Our coaches aren't allowed to even mention a recruit to any media members. It seems to be pretty well known we were after Myles Turner but you won't find any mentions of Wichita State and him in the same sentence anywhere.

Which normally means the recruit isn't interested in that school. It could be that a school asks not be named, but I've heard that a few times, and rarely believe it.

I think that means generally that we weren't in on the guy early when kids are retweeting every school that says hello, and that when we are in on the guy, we weren't ever on his top 5 list when asked by the media. It may be that we are intriguing and that said player is listening, but never makes the leap to scheduling a visit.

This guy could potentially be our starter at the 4. He has the size and appears to be really athletic. Hope he can play D.

I'd expect him to be a 4/5 off the bench in year one (Hall/Early/Lufile/Carter did not start their first year). He will also have a lot of competition from Kelly and Hamilton.

                        • Not just loyalty, but whomever it is will have to be one hell of a defender to beat out Evan. He's not about to give anything to anyone.

I would love to see some combination of Kelly and Brown keep Evan on the bench. So would Bill Self. My money is on Evan.

I still think Evan Wessel has not hit his ceiling offensively yet.
