that makes the preseason trip (overseas i believe) even better. He will get the extra time to practice and play should he come here

Transfers cannot play, unless the 5th year/already graduated thing is an exception.

I'm nitpicking but I feel like that it just did a disservice to Chadrack to compare him to Tevin.
I completely agree with that. It is entirely possible that Chadrack in March of 2014 is every bit as good or better than a guy like Anton Grady. I was trying to articulate a scenario where Coach might say "blow the roof off" and have us act like it's a let down, only to find out Coach knew something we didn't about a guy who may not have hype. Chadrack is the perfect Shocker because he came in normal and work so hard that he became a very good basketball player. I'm just not always very good with words :)
When you are just trying to land anyone that can help the team, even getting an experienced starter might be great news to a coach. Having said that, I do think Coach is expecting something pretty cool here.

          • CJ was 6'9 265, an athletic defender, solid rebounder who took up space, and rim protector. That doesn't sound like Grady except for solid rebounder.

Grady blocked 1.4 shots per game over a ~30 minute average last year, whereas CJ blocked 0.8 shots per game over a ~17 minute average his senior season. That's almost identical on a per minute basis.

Also, we're kinda ignoring the offensive production aspect.

Edit: Re: the discussion of defense, you guys are aware Grady was on the Horizon All-Defensive Team this year right? He's no slouch on that end and I don't get why people are insinuating otherwise.

              • Beyond his scoring, I like that Grady had 59 assists last year (after 53 in 2013-14). Our true post players (DC, Shaq, Rauno, Bush) combined for 35 and played in 5 more games. Throw in Evan, and the number is 57.

Consider the potential impact of a capable post distributor with Fred, Ron and Conner lurking on the perimeter.

                • Maybe the recruit news will come out the same time as the Jody Adams news.

You think he's going to the NBA or overseas instead of transferring?

I know we're a defense first team, and we always will be. A really offensively gifted post has me excited, though.

I may be off my rocker here, but I think Grady's offensive post-skills and his passing skills might just mean he's a better fit for what we need next year than Thon Maker is anyway.

                          • I understand the sentiment that Grady isn't what people have in mind with 3G's proclamation but IMO he's the best available option when compared to the JUCOs. Our AA senior guards deserve the best resources available while they're still here and I'm not sure there is a better option if you're looking for immediate production.

This!!! ... and with him only having a year of eligibility it leaves open a scholarship for 2016.

Although there is a separate thread on Grady, most of the recent post on him have been here. I agree he seems like the best fit to fill the need for a more experienced power forward. I've looked at several reviews of his skills on You tube. As has been reported, he averaged 14 ppg & 8 rebounds/game this past season. He was also on the Horizon League All-Defensive team which certainly fulfills one of Marshall's top criteria. One youtube video I watched included the announcer saying that for Grady to not get double teamed is rare, & he posts up well. It looks like he has a good mid-range jumper, too. Averaged 1.4 blocks/game.
