@ReggieRankin: Scout's Take: SF Markis McDuffie picks Wichita State http://t.co/5JlKLdAUn4

Small forward Markis McDuffie, ranked No. 92 in the 2015 ESPN 100, has committed to Wichita State after also considering VCU, SMU and Boston College. Let's take a look at what McDuffie will add to the Wichita State program.

Why he committed: McDuffie was blown away with the campus, coaching staff and players on his visit to Wichita State. "The school was beautiful and the campus was just amazing. The coaches and players were cool and [head] coach [Gregg] Marshall is a great guy," McDuffie told ESPN.com.

What he brings: The first word that comes to mind when we think of McDuffie is versatility. He has great size, length, athleticism and skill that allow him to play and defend both wing positions and some power forwards. He excels on the break with his ability to finish above the rim and he can also make plays within the half-court offense. McDuffie is a tough matchup and he is just scratching the surface of how good he could become. "I am coachable and love to work hard. I like and can handle when the coach gets on me because I know it will make me better," McDuffie said.

How he fits: McDuffie will provide the Shockers with a player who possess great versatility and can create matchup problems at possibly three positions: small forward, shooting guard and power forward in certain lineups. Marshall will do a great job of putting McDuffie in positions within the offense where he can display his talent and be most successful depending on the lineup and situation. Also, McDuffie will be a factor on the glass and with his passing when he draws multiple defenders. Defensively, he is capable of defending the aforementioned positions because of his length, athleticism and toughness. "They run plays that I can see myself in. Scoring, passing, just showing my versatility," McDuffie said.

Who he reminds us of: The four-star swingman brings to mind NBA wings Paul George and Danny Granger. He is long, versatile, skilled and productive on both ends of the floor, with great upside and the talent to make it happen with continued development.

How the class is shaping up: McDuffie joins two other perimeter players in shooting guards Landry Shamet, who can knock down jumpers with range off the catch or dribble, and Tyrone Taylor, who can make plays with the ball in his hands by creating off the bounce. This group helps fill the Shockers' roster needs by adding size, length, scoring and versatility.
"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

3G is building the reputation for developing players and Markis truly fits the Marshall profile, athletic, smart and coachable. As much as I liked the idea of adding Roach to the 2015 class, I was really hoping for McDuffie. And now that he's somewhat official, I really like what they're saying about him and his commitment to WSU.

          • That guy who is running that AAU team sounds like the real deal holyfield. Teaches them etiquette, how to shake a hand, keep eye contact and how to handle yourself on social media, on top of basketball training. Every young man needs that type of advice.

@Ricardo del Rio:, is there any reason you omitted the part about spindly legs? Because this guy has them, NBA-like spindly legs.

              • I grew up in a good old Kansas-style suburban part of town where our neighbors included both houses and wheat fields. As a result, I've seen lots of grasshoppers in my life.

And every grasshopper I've ever seen has spindly legs.

Edit: Also interesting that the ESPN item makes reference to Danny Granger. Remember him at Bradley before he escaped to New Mexico and got away from Jim Les? It didn't used to be only WSU that recruited NBA-caliber talent to the Valley.

I live Chicago so I'm able to attend many of the road games. I hope Bradley get better sooner rather than later. They have a fan base that has always been complimentary towards the Shockers. Now, Illinois State on the other hand, can go right to the abyss of Hell.

If you have never seen RDR in a pair of shorts you are missing something to behold, he defines "spindly legs".

                          • The highlight videos really remind me of Early's highlight videos, with one huge exception. McDuffie's highlights include some FVV-type passes. Then the writeups indicate a solid background, ability, and desire on D.

With 4 years to work with this staff, McDuffie has the potential to be a more polished version of Early. I haven't seen anything to indicate McDuffie has Early's explosiveness getting off the floor, which helped Early a lot in getting boards. Not many top-flight athlets have Early's ability to go vertical in a hurry. Guys with spindly legs tend to be pretty explosive getting off the floor.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
