Well if you are using that logic, then filling the open spot would not increase the depth because that person would also be an unknown. Do I think Simon will play a substantial amount of minutes? Absoulutely not. But he does have a year under his belt and experience in Marshalls system means something. He will play every now and then. Also, all I said is he will "play some."

In my opinion John Robert will serve the same role next year as he did this past year. But with Rian Holland for sure and possibly Corey Henderson added to the mix at the guard position even those minutes may be diminished.

A combo 4/5 guy would be a nice get. Although Shaq has freakish skills, his "want to" is still in question. The 7-0 Bush is unproven as well. If this question mark can be answered with a serviceable contribution in 2014-15, this could be another magical season.
Derail's departure means they have their eye on another big and a good chance of landing him--IMHO. I don't think the coaching staff would indicate to a current player the likelihood of fewer minutes if they did not have someone they felt could take that person's place immediately.

Kelly is not a "stretch 4."

Why do you assume this was necesarily a coach's decision and not a realization by Derail Green?

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

              You're right...could have been either.

He won't have a short bench next year. If necessary, he'll redshirt one less player.

I think he could be. Put him in at PF - Yeah, yeah, he's a bit undersized and he's not known as a down-low banger, but...

...He could pull the opponents' PF out to the perimeter. If he can screen at all, it puts the pick and pop game back into play. Put the opponent's PF on the perimeter and it increases the chance for an offensive board.

Then there's Zach Brown - another 6'7" Fr - who's had a season of playing PG at Sunrise. He's got some handles and some range. Again, not known as a down-low banger, but he's a player capable of stretching an opponent's D out of shape.

******* would totally fill out the roster in the best apparent possibility. If he doesn't sign, the Shox will likely go small, quick, ball-handling, with a rim protector. I wouldn't be at all bothered by a front-court rotation that included Wamukota, Morris, Carter, Kelly, and Brown. The different looks the Shox could put on the court with that group would make game-planning against them a nightmare. Got both big and banging and small and slashing possibilities.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Actually, what I've read, Kelly is known as more of a banger down low and a good rebounder without an outside game yet.

I think he's an athletic banger and slasher with a good shot, but not yet consistent from deep. He's a bigger Jamar Howard.

                        This.

Hargrave coach A.W. Hamilton describes him as a combo forward who is one of the nation’s top rebounders. “He's a super-tough kid,” Hamilton said last month. “He can guard a wing. He can guard a big. He’s a big-time athlete.”

Kelly said he gets most of his points by driving and scoring in the lane. While he can make three-pointers, he is working on extending his range on his jump-shot.

“I like going hard and going at it,” he said. “I like defense and I take pride in getting stops.”

Strictly speaking, this is true. WSU has five returning scholarship players who saw time on the court last year, and the high expectations for the coming season are a tribute to just how good a nucleus they are and how much of last season's production they bring back with them.

Based on what we've seen under the Marshall plan, though, there's every reason to expect a lot of help from the "unknown" guys. Two have already spent a year in the system and could have played last year if necessary; two of the new guys have experience well beyond that of the average incoming high schooler; the other three current newcomers complete what Marshall has called the best recruiting class he's ever had. So they may be unknown now, but by the time 2015 rolls around, I'm guessing we'll know a lot more about them and be pretty happy with the addition. That's certainly what history would suggest.

As for JR Simon, I agree with others that that he's really protection more than depth, but that's fine, too. From all accounts, he works hard and is a great teammate, and every minute he plays is a minute that one of the regulars isn't running the risk of injury on court (hence the protection aspect). And who knows -- maybe some day he'll have his Nick Rogers moment. But even if not, he and ZBush are valuable Shockers in their own way.

The ******* tweeting isn't sending good vibes to the team. They also talked about a juco player from NW FL named Tevin Glass, 6-8, F. I can't find any SN talk of him lately. Anyone know anything about his recruitment?
