Coach Swanson at Hutch says Herrera will sign Friday with K-State. Story is on JucoJunction.
This is indication Ken Bowman cannot qualify for D-1 in Kansas. I don't think they would be taking Herrera if there was a chance for Bowman. I'm being convinced that the message board talk of him going overseas next year is correct.
Speaking of Jayhawk League players. Does anybody know about Independence's Antionio Hanson? I noticed he beat out Montrell McDonald for the Eastern Section's MVP award. He played one year at Tulsa before going to Independence. I'm sure we have no interest as he is a point guard, but I'm curious and can't find anything about his recruitment.
I was glad to hear about Marshall and Jans interest in recruiting the Jayhawk Conference. As long as we aren't getting top 150 or so high school recruits, I'm all for bringing in high quality JUCO players in a little higher number than normal. Just review players in Kansas Juco's this year...Maze, Bowman, Payne, Cohadarevic, MaDonald, Herrera and of course Chamberlain. Very impressive. Of course every year some of the best might be placed at one of the Juco's by another school, but you never can tell. There are too many good players in Wichita's backyard to not prospect these guys every year.In the fast lane

I have to disagree a bit with Trop. I'd hate to see us get too caught up in bringing in JUCOs. You have to recruit them and know who's where, but I'd much rather have 4 year players than 2. A year like this when we're extremely young and lack depth at a few positions I'm all for it. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't want to average any more than one per year. Hopefully a number of years where we don't have to go that routeInfinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Yes, but long term success and stability comes from 4 year players.
Lets not forget that the JUCO talent level as a whole is nowhere near what it used to be. Prep schools take most of the top talent that doesn't qualify and develops many that have potential but need a year or two more. JUCO used to get those kids. Fewer of them go that way now because of college eligibility.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

The players I named speak for them self. There is plenty of talent in Kansas Jucos.
True stability with high school players comes from constantly getting the top players. We have a ways to go. It's true rankings don't always work out. But the lower in the rankings you take it's becomes more miss than hit.
If we can get top Juco talent instead of borderline high school which is pretty much what is available to us in the Spring, I say take it at this point. They would give us better chance of winning the next couple of years. The more we win, the easier it will be to get the top high school talent we all want. I'm saying in a long winded way....take the best talent. And for us, it might be in the surrounding Jucos for awhile. In the fast lane

I agree with SubGod22 that eventually long term success will mainly be built with 4 year guys, but right now the reality is that the team needs the JUCOs for short term success. Once HCGM has the team back on track, I think he'll be more focsussed on recruiting high school players.
