Here is who 247 has as the Shox 2024 targets that are uncommitted:

Jinup Dobuol is a 6-6, 180-pound Small Forward from Saint Paul, MN.

Anthony Gilkes is a 6-6, 180-pound Shooting Guard from Bradenton, FL.

Khaafiq Myers is a 5-10, 150-pound Point Guard from Philadelphia, PA. He has 4 Offers.

Here is who Verbal Commits has the Shox targeting for 2024 (doesn't include those listed already on 247):

Note: It mentions that Jalen Hooks goes to Sunrise, but I don't see him listed on the rosters noted above.

I don't think either of them are true PG. I would think we would hit the portal hard to try to land an immediately available PG that can come in and either backup Cortes or challenge him for playing time. We still don't even know if Cortes is going to be the PG we hope he can be. So need plenty more depth there.

IMO, we should be done with HS kids this class. We have 2 coming in, have a redshirt freshman, and will have a raw sophomore in Joy. If we do go after any, lets swing high.

If I have any of the "facts" not right, please let me know.

We currently have 12 players on scholarship.

          11 have played, 1 is a RS.

6 are guards (includes RS) which 2 could play the SF (Beverly/Bamba), 1 true PG Cortes (+ Bell, Beverly). All can return.

6 are forwards. 3 centers (Germany-last year), 1 PF (Abidde), 2 SF (DeGray, Ridgnal-last year)

That leaves 3 available spots. The 1 unused scholarship and replacing Germany and Ridgnal.

Recruits: Pipkin (2/1?) and Williams (2,3,1).

Biggest needs: Immediate need, another PF. Also (for me), a good & experienced PG. Also, all our 5s will be gone after next year.

Yea, we got holes most everywhere, but some are bigger ones than others. Comments

We need a lot of pieces, but an experienced point guard is definitely towards the top of the list. Jahvon Quinerly was probing us today like an alien autopsy…

I'd take 2 experienced grad transfers, one being a PG, one being a 3/4 type player. We need some real experience to be the stop gap while we train the young guys.

I don't believe we have the players to play man to man. Memphis found good shots with ease. We struggle to do the same. We were HOT the first half yesterday but we all know we can't sustain that kind of shooting. We don't preasure the ball, we don't get close enough to defend and we don't make anyone uncomfortable on offense. Despite playing to far off of many shooters we still allow penetration, side doors and back doors. I'd like to see more zone. As much as I hate to admit being wrong again I'd use KP and QB together again BUT in a 3-2 zone with those two protecting the rim. Needs to be a match up 3-2 like Syracuse immediately getting all over whoever has the ball on the perimeter. Allow the two point shots 10-17 feet away and take away threes, side doors and back doors. I'd be working Germany into that and DR. Everything we get from Rogers on offense is negated on defense but he isn't the only one getting beat and/or lost. A 3-2 matchup would help correct a lot of that. Bottom line though is I don't think we will ever be a college basketball factor until the NCAA deals with the portal and NIL.

The 2 HS guards are a bright spot. If our bigs all stay that can,
we still need help for bigs at portal on 1 or 2 bangers that can give immediate help. I can remember several Seasons when the Shocks in the 3g days had 2 excellent pt. Guards.
                        That really helped win games.

We need accurate shooters and players who can score. It is also obvious our recruits all need to know how to already play stingy defense and already know how to cover our foes like a cheap suit. No more allowing any team to light us up for over 100 points ever again.

Defense and rebounding are not stressed in AAU basketball. Most AAU players focus on their scoring abilities, their flashy drives and dunks, and many are pretty spoiled with all the goodies they get. Most are not used to working hard to improve their defense, passing ability, BB knowledge, and rebounding fundamentals. They tend to be really selfish, careless and downright sloppy players with little interest on defense. Look at Houston and what their coach stresses / demands. That is the direction I'd like for us go

That's an oversimplification of the AAU circuit. There are plenty of players that will dial it in on the defensive end and take pride in it. Those things don't generally make highlight tapes though so you don't see it.

We really need 1 lockdown defender that can defend 1-4. We had that with Ben Smith, Tekele and Dex. We don't have that anymore. Having one guy helps so much because he can guard the hot hand. After that, we need adequate defenders that can all go off for 20 pts on any given night.
