A 7 footer isn't a bad type of player to take a flyer on. I'd much rather try a 7 footer that ends up sitting on the bench than leave a scholarship open like we did this year.
Do you honestly believe this kid is leaving FSU to go sit on the bench somewhere? He was doing that at FSU. He’s likely wanting playing time. Hard hard pass.

Well hopefully we aren't promising anyone playing time. If he's good enough.. He will play. If not .. Then he won't

He’s not. It would be a waste of the coaching staffs time. They can focus on kids who can actually help then fill in the bench later.

FWIW, will add that although this is by far not a good means of analysis at all, if you look at tweets of him entering the portal Syracuse fans were getting hyped since he’s from there & excited about the possibility of him transferring to Syracuse. I think the concerns are more than fair though. His rate stats like BPM & block % are also solid but very well could’ve been racked up in garbage time vs other walk ons. Just a lot of unknown & would hope coaches have some practice footage we don’t & are making a good eval. Can’t say that I’m overly confident in that though.

If we had coaches talented at working with bigs and a track record of success evaluating and developing bigs, I MIGHT be on board. But there is none of that on this staff.

Absolutely correct, and what’s funny/sad is that if there was, I would likely be excited about the idea of Ballard.

                Same.

I just don't think he would come here and get better. That is concerning, cause he needs to get better.

Local beat writers always make official visits sound like they went great, but this article goes quite a ways past that.

He was surprised how much he liked the visit. Came with his mom, who was very positive about the experience. Impressed with Intrust game and fan support. He wants to make a decision soon. Also looking at Maryland and Syracuse.

Maryland and Cuse are a lot closer to home. Though the experts don't think he'd see time here so I'm not sure why the other two are interested at all.

It said this kid could really add to what was already a promising pairing at center last year for the Shocks.

"It would be good to add this kid to bulldozer Udeze and pick-and-pop specialist Pohto, to form a well-rounded trio"

“He does have other visits lined up, but he was definitely very impressed with his visit, so things may be changing,” Regina Ballard, Quincy’s mother, told The Eagle. “That’s a good thing. He doesn’t want to waste anyone’s time. He’s definitely thinking through this, but the sooner the better.”

                            More from Mom:

He met some of the (WSU) players (on Saturday) and he thought they were pretty terrific. It definitely looks like it’s a really good situation.”

Waterman arranged a special meeting with Dr. Marché Fleming-Randle, the Chief Diversity Officer at WSU, who gave a helping hand in the recruiting process. The family was blown away by the conversation. “That was everything,” Regina Ballard said.

They left even more impressed than they were before they came to Wichita. “Coach IB is fantastic, he really is,” Regina Ballard said. “He’s like the most personable, trusting and caring coach. Q was really impressed by that. He spent a lot of time with Q and I was really impressed by that as well. You can tell he really cares about his players and that’s so important to us and well-appreciated. “It seems like a very strong program and a really tight-knit family and that’s what Q and his family is looking for.”

He couldn't see time in front of a walk-on at Florida State after 2 years. I am not sure why those two would be interested either.

In all honesty though. I guess if Mo stays (which I wasn't counting on) then it would make some sense to have a situational big to add to the rotation (ala Orupke). Perhaps this guy could at least fill that role. And if he comes in, surprises and does more than that....even better.

If Mo leaves I don't think Kenny is quite ready to shoulder the bulk of the load. I think at that point a little more "proven or experienced" big to backup Kenny would be important.
