You guys will fall in love with this kid, he is a winner on and off the court. I am now an official shocker fan!!... BTW... Whats up with the wheat??..LOL
Wheat makes bread which is the heart of a good meal. We are counting on Fred to be the bread in this smorgasbord of talent we have coming in.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

            • I am trying to keep from getting too excited after what happened with Mannigault here. I watched all of his high school videos on here, and everyone said he was going to be our future PG. He didn't exactly pan out that way. I hope FVV is different.

              • I don't speak for everyone, but the KM situation does make you realize that good players have to have the mental aspect just as much as the physical to be successful. Fred seems to have both and for that is already light years ahead of KM.

                • Manigault couldn't shoot from outside either.

                  • Also didnt KM have another high profile D-1 player on their team?

The Jennings kid that went to Clemson.

Manigault was an athlete with uipside. You could easily see the deficiencies in his skills and decision-making. VanVleet isn't the athlete that KM was but his development is light-years ahead. The only similarities between them was the position they play.

This article is right on point!!.. One of the problems with Illinois h.s b-ball is if your not from a high profile school in chicago you get zero respect from the media here. FVV being from rockford, had to go into chicago for AAU, camps and summer tournaments just to prove that he is an elite point guard in the state. I think a lot of smart people know how good he was, but until this weekend, and the last few weeks leading up to state people started to realize especially chicagoland how good this kid was. Also, some people in IL are basketball dumb! if a guy is not flying through the air dunking on everybody they think he is no good or not good enough. Once FVV gets stronger and adjust to the college game he will be the best PG in the MVC....

Ah clemson, the blackhole of mis-guided basketball talent. Too bad for him.

                            • Wichita State Shockers

Though Joe Ragland's eligibility will expire after this season, Wichita State will be able to rely on Malcolm Armstead to handle the Shockers' offense next season. However, according to Scout.com's Brian Snow, the next backcourt star may not be the Oregon transfer but their incoming guard Fred Van Vleet.
Snow analyzed three under-the-radar 2012 recruits who, if their teams were to make NCAA tournament runs in the upcoming seasons, could potentially have an impact on the national stage. One is incoming Shockers guard
Fred Van Vleet. We have written extensively about the 5-foot-11 guard and though Snow acknowledges Van Vleet may have some physical limitations, his squads always win.
It will be interesting to analyze the type of impact Van Vleet has next year, and whether his arrival means Armstead plays off the ball (or, if the coaching staff first uses Van Vleet off the bench).
