At least a couple of high majors tried to get involved in Van Vleet's recruitment. He was WSU's #1 pg recruiting priority. Look for Wichita State to make inroads in Illinois.

Besides the Illinois schools here are some other we can expect to be completing with the Shockers for Illinois talent:

Xavier, St. Louis, Missouri, Bradley, Northern Illinois, Loyola, Tennessee and Missouri State.

I'm a happy Shocker fan today.
+1 for Thurman and Ellis to fill out the class. There was also some mention of Aaron Durley giving a soft verbal last spring.
I have my doubts about the Durley soft verbal. I think the Shockers are probably still in the evaluation stage on Aaron. If I remember correctly, he couldn't play varsity last year due to a transfer. This hurts. Right now he is rated as 22nd best 2012 player in the Houston area.

I'd like to get at least one of Ellis/Thurman. There are a number of others, including Durley, that I'd be interested in as the 4th 'ship.

Yep.. Looking at that video, he seems to be one of THOSE guys. Seemingly slow, but can break free into position for a shot at ANY time, will pick your pocket if you aren't focused (5 stls per game?), and nearly always comes up with the loose balls. I've played against that type before as some of you have. Special player. God given instincts.

I'm really excited about this recruit. The PG position is the most important in college basketball and it sounds like the Shockers got a really good one. By all reports a high BB IQ and you gotta love 7.5 assists. Five steals is just icing on the cake. If HCGM can surround him with good talent- watch out Valley.

KAKE is supposed to have an interview with FVV on their 6pm newcast.

www.wrex.com (local Rockford station) will talk to him on their 10pm newscast.

When was the last time we signed the top player at any position from a state like Illinois?

This is excellent, excellent news. Now let's finish off the class with a couple of city league studs.

                      Chris Brown was Arkansas GPY.

Craig Steven was the top QB in Kansas as a senior.

Jake White was likely the the top PF in Minnesota.

Are any of those "like" Illinois?

Pretty sweet "thread the needle" bounce pass from Fred on the KAKE story.

WSU signed the Chicago player of the year Bernard Jackson in '82, and the Los Angeles player of the year Gil Wilburn in '82.

John Cooper was KC player of the year when he signed in '88?

John Smith was South Carolina POY in '90? <- let that one be a warning on expectations.

I didn't go far enough in my pevious post. Players like that may look seemingly slow, but they are not slow, as wuzee pointed out in his previous post. They are smooth/balanced, not herky jerky, and fast. Think Deron Williams when he was at Illinois U.
