  • I'm not as high on Patton as some. I'd take him, but I'd like to look elsewhere first.

Wiggins is at the top of my list though.

    • Fancy font, Wuzee. I like your suggestion, and if there are questions about Uwadiae's ability to qualify because of his jumping around (maybe a/another prep year will be needed?), the possibility of two spots opening up seems pretty good.

          • I kinda forgot about Gill, but there is no doubt he is a talent. He appears to be more of a PF than a center and that worries me for 2013-14. My question is, is he interested?

beats me but thanks to pinstripers in the Tony Gill thread we have this record of a paul sullentrop live blog right after the Cali recruiting trip.

Do you think the Shocks will try and recruit a center during the junior college tournament? They seem to be pretty small going into next year!
              Yes.

Tony Gill's JUCO is in Sacramento, so either steve-sacramento is a shocker fan who happened to ask this right after WSU obviously recruited Gill or this is somebody close to Gill asking questions.

              • Yesterday, did you notice how young the Final 4 teams were in most cases? The question becomes as we near into the signing period real soon, is can the Shocks Dance again next Season with the returning players we have, the banner recruiting class we already have, plus the 1-2 more players we may yet sign? Will will be even more talented but less experienced?

I'm hoping we can get where we hit the ground running in due time in terms of not having to wait 6 years at a time to Dance. Are we going to be a Season away or will our reloading have us right where we need to be? Soon, the last pieces of our squad for next Season will draweth nigh. Don't forget we have 3 really talented players that practiced with our Team last Season.

I have a hunch the experts will pick us somewhere between 3-5 in the Valley race next Season. We are bound to be better than advertised!!!!!!! Don't want to expect too much too soon on a Season of rebuilding. It would be hard to imagine that we would be as good of a road team as the last 2 seasons. However, I am thinking we have a shot of coming on strong as the Season wears on and hopefully peaking in time to make some hay. It is hard to project just how strong this recruiting class will be and how soon they can come together with our returning squad and become a very tough team to beat.

                • With that guard rotation, and forwards like White, Hall and Early, they will be tough to beat. But as we saw in yesterday's games, Wichita State needs a strong defensive presence in the post -not a power forward filling in at center- to have final four expectations. Orupke needs to double up his game somehow, some way, or the Shox really need to recruit a genuine post man (probably juco).

I'm hoping we get Wiggins. If we sign 2, I agree that we need a solid big that can help right now. Wisconsin had 2 or 3 big bruisers that could play solid inside but also stroke the 3. This is getting more and more common. Thus the best Juco big we can sign sounds feasible to me.

The D. played inside in both games was huge. Louisville and especially Kentucky really caught my eye. Their interior D. made each shot inside a challenge. Also, I hope we are again a solid rebounding team again because that also factored in in terms of the winners and the losers yesterday.

Withey (KU) has really come on too. KU isn't even in the final four without him IMO. His shot-blocking (second best in the country after the Davis kid of Kentucky) has been of inestimable help to KU's run.

Wichita State does have that game-changing shot-blocker in Orupke (something like the Deng kid of Louisville), but, gawd, he can't stay on the floor. Are there any juco legit shot-blockers that want to be a Shocker?! C'mon, there must be somebody! We need a goalie (alongside the too-bench-familiar Orupke).

But I don't worry too much about the Shockers on the boards. Much, well, exactly, like Tom Izzo at Michigan State, Gregg Marshall teams will squeeze you on the boards.

                      • Well, yeah if you expect a final four team next year we are going to need a serious defensive post presence. A sweet 16 has been done numerous times with a big PF playing the five.

I commend you for your eternal optimism having final 4 expectations...you might be the only one. I am a bit more realistic and am hoping next years edition has good chemistry to go along with the talent they will obviously have. I am holding off for a chance at just making the tourny in some form or fashion.

We will have a smorgasbord of options at the 1,2 & 3 spots (especially if Wiggins comes on board). The 4 & 5 will be a bit more sensitive. The possibility of a starting pair of Hall (4) & EO (5) just does not make any sense. You have 2 players that can't shoot beyond 6 feet of the basket (and that is giving them the benefit of the doubt). One of those positions has to have an offensive perimeter presence (like Stutz & Durley the past few years). Therefore Hall has to start and play primarily at the 5, with EO backing him up. White, Early, Hawkins and Green can piece together the minutes at the 4.

Let's keep our goals reasonably challenging, and not requiring a genie and a bottle.

Man, I'd like to see Wichita State get a real, live shot-blocker (that can stay in the game, on the floor) period. Maybe Orupke can shed his cacoon and blossom?
