Not surprisingly the Shocks fell to #9 Ohio State 0-4 on Saturday but they bounced back today to defeat #51 South Carolina 4-2.
In the USC match the Shocks won the doubles point and both Tin Ostojic and Miroslav Herzan defeated ranked opponents in the #1 and #2 singles while Eddie Stoica provided the clinching point with a win in the #6 singles.
A quite satisfactory start to the 2016 Spring season.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 24, 2016, 02:38 PM.

The Shocker Men dropped a hard fought 4-3 match to #52 Denver and now have dropped 3 straight matches by that score to good opponents. They just can seem to eek out that 4th point. Nevertheless they are playing pretty well led by the Tin Man of Ahs (Sr. Tin Ostojic) and that should prepare them well to challenge Drake for the Valley chmpionship.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. - No. 67 Wichita State fell in another tightly-contested battle this time coming to the hands of No. 52 Denver, 4-3, Friday evening at Lifetime Fitness.
The Shocks are 4-4 on the season against a tough schedule. Drake is 2-3 and has also played a tough schedule. The Shocks are ranked 67th and Drake is ranked 37th. Illinois State is 4-0 against a weak schedule.

Wichita State fought off a tough Illinois State squad to win 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Genesis Health Club.
WSU moved to 14-10 overall this season, while improving to 1-1 in MVC play. The Redbirds fell to 8-12 and 0-2 with the loss. The Shockers were once again without the services of No. 1 singles player Tin Ostojic for the third straight match due an ankle injury.
WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State fought off a tough Illinois State squad to win 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Genesis Health Club.
Hopefully, the Tin Man can get back in action in time for post-season play. The Shocks final regular season match is today. The MVC-AEC Tournament begins April 29th at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

Shocks add 2 more players to the Class of 2016 recruiting class. One Juco transfer and one local player with a name Shocker fans will be very familiar with.
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State men's tennis head coach Brad Louderback announced the signing of Stefan Gonzalez to a National Letter of Intent, as well as the addition of local standout Connor Devlin, Monday afternoon.
Welcome to Shocker Nation gentlemen and hope you have outstanding careers at WSU.Last edited by 1972Shocker; April 18, 2016, 05:21 PM.

MVC Women's and Men's Tennis Championship Preview - Hosted by Wichita State April 29th to May 1st.
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State plays host to the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Men's and Women's Team Championships, April 29-May 1.
The men's tournament is actually a combined Missouri Valley/American East tournament because neither conference has enough men's teams to qualify for an automatic bid. The Valley only has 4 men's teams (WSU, SIU, ILS and DU) and the American East only has 3 men's teams -- University of Maryland - Baltimore County, Hartford and Stony Brook (I would have listed abbreviations but that might have been kind of obscure).
The Shocks get a 1st round bye and don't play on Friday. The 1st play in the semi-finals on Saturday at 10:00am against the winner of the ILS vs UMBC match. If the Shocks win they will play the survivor of the other 4 teams for the MVC-AEC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
I doubt that any of these teams will qualify for an at-large bid. Drake, at #51, is the only team ranked in the ITA Top 75. While the Shocks are the #1 seed, Drake may well be the favorite. Drake very unexpectedly lost to both Illinois State and Southern Illinois last Saturday in Normal.
The big question mark for the Shocks is the availability of their top player, Sr. Tin Ostojic. The Tin Man of Ahs has missed the last 4 weeks nursing an ankle injury and I do not know what his availability is for this weekend. Even if he is available not sure how sharp you can expect him to be at this point.

It has been a very tough 2016 for Coach Brad Louderback and his Shocker men's tennis team. Most seriously was Coach Louderback's prostate cancer diagnosis in December and his surgery in January plus whatever chemotherapy and/or irradiation he had to go through. Hopefully, Coach Louderback's surgery and treatment have been successful. Thoughts and prayers to him, his family and team.
To add insult to injury the Shocks lost there No. 1 player and the best player in the Valley when Sr. Tin Ostojic sprained his ankle early April and has only played 1 doubles match since then -- on April 16th and he lost that match. He may or may not be able to go this weekend.
Coach Louderback invited 3G in to make a pep talk to his team heading into the MVC/AEC Tournament.
Good luck Shocks.
