Among the 4 scores that counted they shot 6-over in Round 2 vs 7-under in Round 3. This morning they had 10 birdies, 1 Eagle (Hole-In-One on a Par 3) and 5 bogies. This afternoon they had 4 birdies, 6 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. 3 of the 4 birdies this afternoon came on the par 5 18th.

That 13 stroke swing on the back 9 dropped them from 2nd place and 2 shots out of the lead to 5th place and 12 shots out of the lead.

Sr. Louis Cohen-Boyer lead the way this afternoon with a 1-under 71, Fr. Jacob Bishop 1-over 73, So. Grant Bennett 3-over 75 and Jr. Alec Heinen at 4-over 76 to account form the Shockers 7-over 295 score.

Fr. Gage Ihrig got back to 2-over after 7 holes after starting his round with a triple-bogey but then he bogeyed 6 of the 1st 8 holes on the back nine and finished with an 8-over par 80 which was the throw away score this afternoon.
    Ouch...thx for the update.

Getting progressively more familiar with the course layout did little for the Shocks as they played progressively worse each round. The went from -2 in Round 1 to +7 in Round and finally a +13 in today's 3rd round a fell to a tie for 8th in the field of 15.

So. Grant Bennett shot 69-75-73 to finish a 1-over 217 while Sr. Louis Cohen-Boyer shot 73-71-74 to finish at 2-over 218. Unfortunately, the other 3 guys could not keep pace. Fr. Jacob Bishop shot 72-73-77 to finish at 6-over 222, Jr. Alec Heinen came at 11-over with rounds of 74-76-77 and Fr. Gage Ihrig struggled over the final 2 rounds shooting 72-80-80 for a 16-over 232.

Shocker Men are the unanimous choice to win the Valley Championship on April 27th and 28th in Sunrise Beach, MO. Illinois State is the unanimous choice to finish 2nd.

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State men's golf team has been picked to finish first at the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship in Sunrise Beach, Mo., April 27-28, at the Golf Club at Porto Cima.

Shocker senior Louis Cohen Boyer was the clear pick for Valley Player of the Week after his sizzling 66-65-69 = 200 (16 under par) performance in winning the Hawkey-Great River Entertainment Invitational at Iowa City. Hopefully, LCB can keep it rolling next Monday and Tuesday.

        Good Luck, Shocks!

The Shockers only senior on this year's team is Louis Cohen Boyer who hails from Paris, France. LCB have been a very good player for Wichita State and is coming off probably the best performance of his Shocker career heading into the Valley Touranment.

Coach Jones has headed back to Europe and is bringing in a Swiss player, Adrien Michellod, next year. Hopefully, Adrien will pick up right where LCB left off. Sounds like a solid addition to the roster. Welcome to Shocker Nation Adrien.

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State men's golf has signed Adrien Michellod to a national letter of intent in the spring signing period, Head Coach Grier Jones announced on April 23.

Freshman Jacob Bishop who started his round on the #3 double-bogeyed #5 and triple-bogeyed #6 and is 5-over after his 1st 7 holes. The other 4 guys are all in good shape but need to stay solid. Need to avoid those kind of atomic bombs.

Grant Bennett also has four bogeys with no offsetting birdies. If he can start avoiding the bogeys, and with what LCB and Walcher are doing (-4 and -3), the guys should be in good shape. Kudos to our Heinen (our #5), for picking up some slack at +1 through 10.

Also, Illinois State who was the unanimous pick to finish 2nd behind the Shocks has stumbled out of the gate and are in last (9th) place at 13-over at roughly the midway point of Round 1. The have 2 players at 8-over including their #1 player. Of course, you can make a lot of strokes up in a relatively short amount of time in collegiate team golf and it is still very early in the tournament.

Good to see LCB's hot play from last week has carried over. Conrad Walcher at -3 after 11 holes is the big surprise. Kudos to those two guys.

Agreed that Alex Heinen playing a solid round in the 5 slot has been important today as well.

Jacob Bishop is now at 8-over after 12 holes. However, Grant Bennett has recovered a 1 stroke and is at 3-over after 13 holes. So now Grant, LCB, Conrad and Alec need to stay solid and not fill the gap back to Jacob over the remainder of Round 1.

LCB is in the house with a 5-under 67 to lead the medalist board.

Alec Heinen hung in very well in the 5 slot but had a triple-bogey on his next to last hole and jumped from 2-over to 5-over and with Jacob Bishop sitting at 8-over the team score felt the full brunt of that bad hole.

However, Conrad Walcher picked up a birdie in his final 3 holes to come in at 5-under and move into a tie with LCB from medalist honors. That is a great effort by those two guys.

Grant Bennett finishes of his round with a 4-over 76 and Jacob Bishop comes in at a 7-over 79 which was the throw Shcokers' throw away score in Round 1. Outside of the back-to-back holes at #5 and #6 that he played in 5-over Jacob was pretty solid. That was good to see the Freshman bounce back and not just fall apart. Hopefully, that will carry over to this afternoon's round.

The Shocks are in at 1-under par as a team. Very solid work.

Illinois State picked to finished 2nd behind the Shocks had a disastrous 1st round and are in dead last at 26-over.

However, Evansville at 7-over, and Northern Iowa at 10-over are still close enough to contend but they have their work cut out for them. The late triple-bogey by Alex Heinen dug into the Shocks lead a little but not critically so.

I think I may have found out why it was taking Bradley and UNI so long to finish. Bradley's Garrett Cox who was at 2-under finished his last 4 holes in 7-over including a triple bogey and a double-bogey on his last two holes. Maybe searching for a lost ball or something. Anyway Bradley dropped from 6-over to 13-over on their last scoring tranche.

Bradley fell seven more strokes back between the next-to-last and final updates, going from +6 to +13, and from 2nd down to 4th. Ouch.

Yep, see the note at the bottom of post #25 for the main reason for that.

However, Bradley is sitting right where they were picked to finish at 4th place. The BIG OUCH of the day belongs to Illinois State.

Shocks hanging tough at exactly the halfway point of Round 2 for them. They are 2 under as a team for the Round with the Walcher and Heinen sharing the highest scores at 2-over. LCB and Bishop are both 1-under and Bennett is 2-under.

For the tournament the Shocks are now 3-under. UNI is 13 shots back at 10-over but they have only had 32 holes scored so far in Round 2 compared 45 for the Shocks.

UNI, Bradley and SIU players appeared to paired up and they are substantially behind the 6 other teams in holes finished and scored. Apparently, a carryover from their delayed finish in Round 1.

Drake, Loyola and Evansville have had 53 holes played and scored to the 32 for UNI, Bradley and SIU with WSU, MSU and ILS at 45 played and scored.

LCB feeling it today. He is 3-under after 14 in Round 2 and now 8-under for the tournament.

LCB finishes off his round at 3-under 69 and he leads the medalist list at 8-under 136.

He last 5 rounds of tournament golf, all on Par-72 layouts, have been 66-65-69-67-69. Not too shabby.

Fr. Jacob Bishop is in at 1-under for Round 2 making a nice comeback from his bad start early in Round 1 today.

So. Grant Bennett cards an even par 72 in Round 2.

RFr. Conrad Walcher weighs in with a 74 and is in 2nd place on the medalist list at 3-under, 5 strokes behind teammate LCB.

RJr. Alex Heinen has the Round 2 throw away score at 4-over 76.

The Shocks finish the 1st two rounds at 3-under and are 20 shots in front of UNI and 24 shots in front of SIU. Both of those teams still have 17 holes to finish and score.
