Shocks sitting in 5th place after Day 1 (2 rounds) at their opening tournament of the 2015 spring season, The UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio. 82 degrees and calm winds. Nice conditions.

None of the Shocks are in contention for medalist honors but the put up 4 solid top scores in both rounds lead by two of their youngsters, 5-7 So. Grant Bennett and 5-7 Fr. Jacob Bishop both shooting 2-over 144 and 3-over 145 respectively.

Shocks finish the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in a tie for 5th.

The Shocks looked like that had a lock on 4th place as the lead North Texas by 4 shots. North Texas was in the clubhouse at +24. The Shocks were at +20 with 12 holes to play. Unfortunately, the played those 12 holes in 5 over a fell back into a tie for 5th with Houston Baptist at +25.

Freshman Jacob Bishop in particular struggled down the stretch as he finished his last 3 holes in 4-over and his last 8 holes in 7-over. He had played his 1st 46 holes of the tournament in 2-over but he kind of lost it over his final 8 holes.

So. Grant Bennett finished the tournament at 4-over 217, Sr. Louis Cohen Boyer at 5-over 218 after carding a solid 1-under 70 today and Jr. Alec Heinen finished at 7-over 220 with three consistent rounds. Bishop finished at 9-over 222 after playing stellar golf for 2.5 rounds.

Fr. Gage Ihring playing in the 3-hole was 22-over 235 and did not contribute a score that was counted.

Fr. Erik Angeston from Sweden played as an individual and carded a 21-over 234.

Not a terrible start for the Shocks and hopefully young Jacob will grow from this experience today. We also need that 5th golfer to step up and be a be able to give us a little margin for error to fall back on when needed.

Shocks playing well at the 2nd Annual Talis Park Challenge hosted by Ball State University and held at the Talis Park Golf Club in Naples, Florida.

In round 1 on Sunday the Shocks shot a 8-under 276 as Grant Bennett (67), Louis Cohen Boyer (68) and Gage Ihrig (68) all shot sub-70 rounds on the par 71 layout as the Shocks finished Round 1 in 1st place tie with #4 ranked Vanderbilt. Alex Heinen pitched in a 2-over 73 to round out the Shocker scoring.

The Shocks fell off to a 6-over 290 in Sunday afternoon's 2nd round with Jacob Bishop, who shot a 78 in Round 1, lead the way with a 2-under 69. However, Grant (73), Louis (74) and Gage (73) could not sustain their Round 1 play. The Shocks finished Round 2 in 3rd place 6 shots behind #4 Vanderbilt and 4 shots behind #14 LSU.

The Shocks are off to a strong start in the final Round 3 today at 6-under par midway through the round. The have moved into a 2nd place tie with Vanderbilt and are 4 shots behind leader LSU.

The nice thing about the Shocks final round today is that so far the worst scores they have on the board among their 5 players are 2 even pars. That gives them the cushion have having one player stumble without impacting the team score.

This is a relatively young Shocker team with 2 Freshman, 1 Sophomore, 1 Junior and 1 Senior.

So it will be interesting to see how they hold up under the pressure down the stretch as each player has about 6 holes left to play.

Unfortunatley, the Shocks did stumble a little bit down the stretch while Vandebilt rallied. Still a very solid 2-under par Tournament for the Shocks good for 3rd place 12 shots behind #14 LSU and 8 shots behind #4 Vanderbilt.

The Shocks finished at even par 284 on todays round with Grant Bennett leading the way at 3-under 68 to finish in an 5th place tie individually. LCB was at even par 71, Alex Heinen at 1-over 72 and Gage Ihrig 2-over 73 on today's round.

The Shocks finished 57 strokes ahead of Indiana who finished in 15th (last) place. I hope that is a good omen heading into Friday's NCAA game.

The Shocks could not keep pace with KU today as the Jayhawks shot a 16-under in the 2nd round to move to 26-under and in sole possession of 1st place heading into tomorrow's final round. Host Denver had the best score of Round 2 at 17-under and moved into 2nd place at 21-under for the tournament.

The Shockers did not play terrible. The came in at 8-under on the round and are at 18-under and in 3rd place.

Shocker Sr. Louis Cohen Boyer fired a 5-under 67 to go with his 68 from round 1 and he has a 1 stroke lead in the individual standings at 9-under. Fr. Jacob Bishop bounced back from his 77 in round 1 to shoot a 3-under 69. So. Grant Bennett and Fr. Gage Ihrig rounded out today's scoring with even par 72's. Jr. Alex Heinen's 1-over 73 was today's throw away score.

The Shocks lead Iowa State by a single stroke with Idaho another 7 shots behind the Cyclones.

The Shocks finished in 3rd place in the 2015 Desert Shootout at 26-under par which was 9 strokes behind KU and 1 stroke back of 2nd place Iowa State. The Shocks played pretty consistently shooting 10-under in Round 1 and 8-under in Rounds 2 and 3.

Fr. Jacob Bishop lead the way in Round 3 with a 4-under 68. Jr. Alec Heinen was at 2-under while Sr. Louis Cohen Boyer, So. Grant Bennet and Fr. Gage Ihrig all posted 1-under 71's today. It's not often your throw away score is an under par round.

Individually Louis finsihed 4-way tie for 2nd at 10-under. All 5 Shockers were under par for the tournament.

Obviously not the most challenging course they will play but still a good showing by the Shocks.

The Shocks are playing in the Jim West Invitational today and tomorrow hosted by Texas State University.

The Shocks got off to a poor start this morning making 6 bogeys and 3 double-bogeys in over their 1st 19 holes played and were sitting in 13th place in the 15 team field. However, they have righted the ship and are now sitting in 4 the place at even par about 2/3rds through the round.

So. Grant Bennett strung together 3 birdies to open his back 9 and is at 3-under on his round and Fr. Gage Ihrig make a hole-in-one the 155 yard Par 3 12th hole and he is at even par on his round. Now the Shocks just need a solid finish to complete the 1st round.

The Shocks complete there rally from 13th early in the round to finish the 1st round in 2nd place at 2-under, 2 shot behind #35 Sam Houston State.

So. Grant Bennett lead the way with a 3-under 69, followed by Fr. Jacob Bishop and Fr. Gage Ihrig both at even par 72 with Sr. Louis Cohen-Boyer came in at 1-over 73 and Jr. Alex Heinen carded a 2-over par 734. Not too bad when your throw away score is a 2-over par effort.

Round 2 is now underway. Gage Ihrig with a snowman on his 1st hole of the round for a triple-bogey. Ouch. Those are the kind of holes you just have to avoid.

At least he has 17 holes to recover and if the 4 other guys play well enough it may be of no consequence. We'll see how it goes.

Alec Heinen has 2 bogeys + a double bogey on holes 10-14 that pushes him to +3 which is where Gage Ihrig remains after his opening triple bogey. Unfortunately, that brings that triple bogey into play.

Shocks have fallen to 4th midway through round 2 but are still only 4 shots behind leader Sam Houston State. Hopefully, they can finish strong like they did this morning.

The Shocks kind of stumbled through this afternoon's round scoring a 7-over vs the 2-under they put up in the morning round. They played the front nine better in Round 2 than they did in Round 1 shooting 1-over vs 5-over this morning. However, they were much worse on the back 9 this afternoon.

Among the 4 scores that counted they shot 6-over in Round 2 vs 7-under in Round 3. This morning they had 10 birdies, 1 Eagle (Hole-In-One on a Par 3) and 5 bogies. This afternoon they had 4 birdies, 6 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. 3 of the 4 birdies this afternoon came on the par 5 18th.

That 13 stroke swing on the back 9 dropped them from 2nd place and 2 shots out of the lead to 5th place and 12 shots out of the lead.

Sr. Louis Cohen-Boyer lead the way this afternoon with a 1-under 71, Fr. Jacob Bishop 1-over 73, So. Grant Bennett 3-over 75 and Jr. Alec Heinen at 4-over 76 to account form the Shockers 7-over 295 score.

Fr. Gage Ihrig got back to 2-over after 7 holes after starting his round with a triple-bogey but then he bogeyed 6 of the 1st 8 holes on the back nine and finished with an 8-over par 80 which was the throw away score this afternoon.
