I seem to remember beating a terrible drake team on a Paul miller tip in.
I can't believe we're comparing that team and season.. but let's see how well this team does in a much weaker Valley before talking NCAA Tournament, let alone Sweet 16.
You mean comparing this team to the team that barely lost to a very good team (Illinois) in a early season island tournament, then got badly beaten on the road by a top 25 team (Michigan State) is unreasonable? I guess you are right. That sounds nothing like this year to date.

Yep, without Karon Bradley, whose shot selection if IIRC was not good that game (like Kyles), hitting a three in the last minute we would not have won the game.

If you wanna make 1/4 season comparisons of the Sweet 16 team, then go for it.

You better watch it with comparing things only a quarter of the way though. We all remember the first quarter of 2006-07 and how that turned out.

              Yep but....

His Game vs George Mason at home>>>> Would have been a blow out with out him.

Gave us a change to win.

              • I noticed Ben Smith only played 2 minutes.

That kind of messed up our rotation with him not in there any more than he was.

Saying things are similar to a certain point guarantees nothing about the future (just like margin of victory guarantees nothing about the future).

The question is whether it is possible to lose the kind of games we have and still have a good season. Or whether it is possible to win some games over mediocre competition with a little luck and still have a good season.

The fact that the Sweet 16 team did exactly that doesn't guarantee that this team will, but it is a fair comparison to demonstrate that doing those things can't be a sure sign of impending doom.

The way we have played thus far cannot be used to discount the possibility of us making a post season run, since it bears similarity to the Sweet 16 season. On the other hand, even if we were undefeated, that couldn't be used to guarantee a post season run, based on what we saw out of the 2006-07 season.

                  • I try not to judge this team by one game, whether it's UConn, SDSU or LSU. However, I've said it before, yes, even after wins, what this team is lacking right now is consistency.

What's causing this problem from game to game, I don't know, but it's there.

In the LSU game we had 5 time periods totaling 20 3/4 minutes in which we scored 63 points. We also had 5 time periods totaling 19 1/4 minutes in which we scored 7 points. I not talking about one or two 2-3 minutes droughts, but a number of times or, in some cases, long periods of time, we just don't score.

It's great being able to put up large offensive bursts in short periods of time, but for this team to take the next step forward, they need to reduce the amount of time they score almost nothing.

i havent been able to watch as man wsu games as i would have liked to but its disappointing that at this point in the season ben smith isnt getting minutes...

also think that having a true PG in the game instead of trying to rely on murry to create things would have been beneficial. ragland deserves more crucial minutes imo...

                            • If this team figures it out & starts playing 2 good halves/gm, they could easily do what the sweet 16 team did. If Stutz plays every game like he did today, & Kyles gets back to early season form. This team has so much potential!

I also want to touch on something that honestly I'm surprised hasn't been discussed more in this thread....Marshall's emotional post game interview. Why exactly do you think he was crying? And did it surprise you?
