Watching him tonight, I thought it appeared like he was afraid he was going to break something. This nice guy needs to find that mean streak again.

The flow of our offense was just not in tune with helping Kyles have a good night offensively. He rushed getting off shots as passes were slow getting to him. We hold the ball SO much. I remember with Smithson, it was "pass, dribble, dribble, dribble, pass, dribble, dribble, dribble". With this squad it's just pass and hold, pass and hold. Our motion is almost no motion. So many of our passes seem to be very predictable. We really don't make it difficult to be guarded.
    Disagree with these two statements:

I thought Garrett played well minus the missed bunnies. When he catches out of position, he struggles (including rebounds). He has the need to put the ball on the floor and that causes issues. One of the two or three times he went up strong, he got whistled for the push. The guards did not do a great job working the ball to the wing to give him the easy 2 IMO. Make the bunnies and he's got 10 points and 6 boards easy.

I think our motion has looked VERY good this year. The trap was causing some problems, but otherwise, nice flow. Hatch and Murry took it to the rack quickly when the weak side slid over, some nice passes for jumpers, but unlike in the past, we missed them. Under Smithson the motion was ALWAYS get it to Jason or Mo and they hold the ball while guys cut. Then they bring the ball low, use their head to creat space and right before the 5 second call they would 1) shoot a fade away, 2) drive to the basket, 3) pass it to Carl Lemons who would go to the top of the key, signal motion and it would go to the other side for the same play. Speaking of Smithson, Reggie also liked the "create space with head" move. He was less successful with it than Perez and Evans.
I guess we can agree to disagree.

Why was Garrett getting the ball ot of position? Sure, everyone misses shots, even easy ones, but he continues to miss "bunnies"....why? If you have good position, why would one get called for pushing on going up strong?

You saw part of my player motion/ball motion problems with your "working the ball to the wing" comment. Kyles likes to shoot from the corner and he rushed a couple because the ball was late getting there. I don't disagree that our movement has looked good at times this year, but when our half court offense stalls, please notice the number of players standing around and the slow ball movement. It happened a lot in the second half last night. With the clock running out, we got a call where Rags got to make 2 FTs and the Hatch 3 point prayer. Without those two situations, NSU would have out scored us in the second half and the margin of victory more like 63-50. Our offense was not clicking in the second half.

I have to admit being one of SNers that thought GS had turned the corner. All signs seemed to point towards a consistent, although slow, progression. For a big man he possesses a great touch out to the arc, including free throws, although he is a terrible finisher around the basket. At this point in time he should be finishing with abundent force. He is so slow of foot and moves in slow motion, his effectiveness in guarding even semi-athletic post players is void. I see him as strictly a situational role player at this point, guarding similar heavy footed players, which are getting few and far between in college basketball these days. Sorry Garrett, you were bought high & will be sold low.

        hmmm?

I didn't get to watch the first half; however during the second half 'The Bruce' and 'The Craig' both commented about our motion offense. They said it was either 'a work of art' or 'poetry in motion'? I know, just a couple of front row commentators opinions. I actually thought it looked pretty good. Not sure about ‘The Bruce’, but I’m confident ‘The Craig’ knows a little bit more about basketball than me. Just sayin'...

I thought Nichols was a pretty good team. They were entertaining to watch and one of the best buy-in games/teams that we have had in the last several years. How many are on this year's schedule? Anybody better? No.

In the post show coach Jans spoke about GS a bit. Said he had lost some of his confidence in practice. He also said he saw signs in the NSU game that GS was starting to get it back.

No offense coach Jans, but politics is not in your future. You just can't cover up that last night was no step forward for Garrett. Maybe on Monday against St. Nick & some elves of the blind, Garrett can show "signs."

He still was not very good. Might have been a bit better, though.

Splitting hairs IMO. Take any player on this team at a certain time point. You could make a case that AE is getting better for example. I think we all know last night was an anomaly. Will he maintain that level and more...no. It doesn't look like Garrett will even come close to expectations. Hey, that's ok with me. He still has a role with this team. I hope he excepts it, continues to work on his game and make the best of it.

A lot of people on here seem to have time machines and can see into the future. Some players have years where they flounder through the first of the year then step it up and flourish through the rest of the season. Some players don't do much through their careers and contribute a lot as a Senior. Noone on here knows what contributions Aaron or Garrett are going to make or not make this year.

I don't think I have ever seen a player with quite the strategy of #31. He spent the night slamming into our guys who would raise their arms to protect themselves. #31 flops to the floor and the devensive guy gets called for an elbow or chuck. Pretty amazing. Dude also had a very unorthodox off-balance jumper - arm/legs/everything going in different directions.

Very wierd flow to the game last night. Nicholls State ran almost zero sets in the 1st half. Shox couldn't hit much from 15 feet out, and the two players many have been looking recently at to carry the team, Blair and Kyles, had very sub-par games.
