I guess we've come to a little agreement.

I'm fine with getting points, I don't care how they come, if we can get them in the end, I don't think it matters. Like you said, we just see it differently. There's always going to points that we can improve on.


I pretty much agree with you on the blowouts. Like I said earlier, I think the things that were brought up earlier in the week by Marshall had something to do with Kyles and Murry playing 30 minutes. Demetric got 0 minutes, and he could've easily gotten some late in the second half but for reasons unkown, he didn't. That would've taken a chunk of time from either Kyles or Murry. I also think you can coast with starters in the lineup.

I think it's pretty obvious that ShockTalk is able to find the negatives in a loss...and in a win...and will probably continue to look for and find negatives even if WSU won a NC. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

ShockTalk is one of the "fans" who decided to join in the discussions of WSU basketball during the swan dive into oblivion of 2007. ShockerNet picked up a huge bunch of negative posters during that stretch. It's good to see that some of them have maintained their negativity into what most posters consider a good team and expect a good year.

Shocktalk is always quite civil, but I do disagree with him on most things.

Shocktalk...you actually remember the Smithson motion being GOOD. I remember the exact opposite. I felt that our motion under Marshall the first half of last year and in Hannah's first year was weak with alot of standing and dribbling. I have grown quite fond of it in 2010.

Aargh - I actually joined immediately after having found out about SN and it had nothing to do with the Shocks state of affairs at the time. Sorry that you think my 40 years of involvement of being an alum of WSU and attending/following Shocker sports (only when out of town, have I missed BB games over the last 30 years) is only as a "fan". Please excuse my lack of meeting your standards. By the way, it is a fan board. I enjoy reading and understanding (or at least trying to understand) others views, hoefully respect their point of view, and be able to discuss those view points in a manner that good friends would use. In my mind, we are a brotherhood (including the sisters).

Thanks wufan. I hope no one here takes my position on a matter as being judgmental about them or condescending of their opinion. There are a very,very few that make this difficult at times. There is also no place for name calling among friends (unfortunately, I've probably been guilty of this, but I'm trying to be more aware).

To clarify about Smithson's motion, NO, I didn't like it. Too much pass the ball and the receiving player dribbles around the outside, repeat, repeat, and repeat. HCGM's teams do not generally put the ball on the floor unneccesarily. When his half court offense is clicking, a passed ball is meeting it's receiver as he gets to the desired position and a subsequent pass, or two, immediately follow in the same manner. This is great and fun basketball to watch. This gets bogged down when passes reach players that have already been standing there and each player does a few head fakes before passing to the next teammate. Defenses have time to react to cutters and screens. Thus, making it difficult to get open shots or the ball to inside players who are not close to being double-teamed.

There isn't too much difference in motion offenses. It depends on whether the receiving player is moving at the time of the pass or not. All of them have a tendency to get stuck around the perimeter. Kyles, this year, has picked up our offense around the perimeter with his good shooting in most games. Our offense, though, seems more potent when Toure is the PG.

I have noticed this year, although, that we do not seem to be working the ball inside as much as we did last year, and we should because we have the post players to do it. There is some double teaming, and it is up to Marshall to figure out what to do when that occurs.

It does seem as though Marshall lets up on the gas some when we get a good lead, only to see it dwindle back down again. I hope this does not happen in conference play, as it gets us in trouble sometimes. I just want to see us put the pedal to the metal, and play the best we can for 40 minutes. To me, IMHO, our loss against Uconn was the coach's failure. He did not bench coach well enough defensively to maintain our lead and win, and make no mistake about it, we had that game won.

And to recover from our losses against Uconn and San Diego, we almost have to win over LSU and Tulsa, to keep an at-large bid alive.

I don't know that Marshall lets up when we have a lead, but I think the players seem to become lax on both offense and defense when Marshall has them be patient.
