I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Actually, before it was takehomeaburger, it was called Arkey's (sp?)
Arkey was the father who started it before I was born 40 years ago. My family lived on Oak and Maple and we went there almost everyday.

My father, who is a retired minister had the opportunity to conduct Arkey's funeral about 3 years ago. Great guy. Incredible food.

Why did they ever move locations?

That place was good, the original local was so small inside.

Head up to the cozy inn in salina, that's good stuff there.

Someone needs to retitle this thread -- I don't think the title fits anymore. Man, can you guys get off subject fast.

I still try to make it down to Ty's Diner every 6 weeks or so just to keep the chassis lubed if you know what I mean.

There was a hamburger place on West street close to where the skating rink and they had something called the "floating Henry burger" I think it was "floating" on a big slice of onion.

My brother (in real life) is Northern Shock and what he says is correct. It was formally named Takehoma Burger but locally called Arkey's. When Arkey retired from the biz, his grandson took it over. He sold the recipe to a fireman who opened the north West St. location and then ran it in to the ground. The city came in and condemned the Maple St. location so Arkey's grandson moved to the old bar just south of Kellogg on the east side of Broadway. With all the downtown construction at the time he wasn't able to make a go of it and finally wound up shutting the whole operation down. Best burgers and fries in town IMHO. Shame to see it go away.

Wasn't this thread originally about how AWESOME KU is?

Well KU does seem to get a lot of burger boys, so maybe there's the tie-in.

I'm kinda surprised he does. Eric Sexton says he doesn't look much and when he does mostly at the recruiting board.
