Coach Marshall did say on the Coach's Show yesterday that he wanted to stay here a long time.
He also mentioned something about his love for animals and the city of Wichita. After the coaches show last night, he and Lynn were heading to a benefit auction (promoting spading and neutering of pets) and he invited all Shocker fans to come and spend time with “the coach” for a fun evening. He emphasized and encouraged fans to come out and visit with him. Trust me; he's a happy camper. We had the 3rd largest contingent in Maui... very close to Michigan State. He and the team were overwhelmed by the fan support… he said it felt like a home game and we even made more noise than the ‘big blue’ of Kentucky. He sincerely appreciates what he has here and has said it’s a special place to coach college basketball.
Off Topic - Speaking of Maui (I’ll include my short Maui wrap-up here); it was simply an amazing experience. For me, second only to traveling with the Shockers to New Orleans in 1981. We visited with Shocker fans from coast to coast who normally don’t get the opportunity to see the Shockers in person. Maui tournament officials (sorry, no game officials :banghead: ) said they were simply amazed by the passion and number of Shocker fans in Maui. One of them said, “You Shocker fans are crazy!” I was as proud as I’ve ever been to be a Shocker fan.
Back On Topic - Speaking of personal experiences, many of us have been or will be presented with ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity during our business career; however many of us will make the decision that we’re right where we need to be at the time. I know it was the best decision I’ve ever made when I turned down my dream job many moons ago. A commitment to my family and community were more important to me and I’ve never had any regrets about the decision. The added travel and stress just weren’t worth the risk.
Sure, there’s always a chance coach Marshall will leave and take his dream job. Who knows, maybe he’s already found it.

Now you got me totally fixated on Dog n Shake. I always make sure when I'm back in Wichita that I go to Dog n Shake at least once or twice. Of course if I lived back in Wichita, I'd be missing all the Mexican food of Tucson. I doubt I could give up real Taquerias.
i was thinking of this thread and i can't think of how many times that i've heard mark turgeon say the words
"since i've been here at wichita state...."
over the past three years.
as we go farther into the basketball year, i'm thankful for three things:
1) mark turgeon moved on
2) we have coach marshall
3) he seems happy, and can recruit
Please don't bring up NuWay and Dog n Shake often. I really miss them.
My day was going so well, and now I remember that I live nowhere near a NuWay. At least there's a White Castle down the road.
Speaking of Gonzaga, was anyone else in the house in '94? Pretty exciting end to that game.
That was the worst I have ever been down on the shockers. To lose the holiday tournament to Gonzaga. How is Gonzaga? FYI- I was 13.
IIRC, LD Swanson hit a game tying shot at the end of regulation, and a game winning three for the win in OT. Seems like he hit 2 or 3 buzzer beaters that year. I also believe that the Zags went to the NCAAs that year, for the first time in a while. FYI - I also was 13.
