The worst thing isn't the unlicensed comics, but the comedy of their going on the road to Texas PanAm, Ball State, et al. Their first home game is after Thanksgiving, after which they go back on the road for twelve days. As much as I am bummed about our schedule, theirs is awful. I bet both of their season ticket holders are pissed.

In all seriousness, Valley teams should not be taking roadies to EKU to start the season. They lose that game to the Colonel Sanders by the way.

I think one of them is the coach's wife and she likes to travel to the big cities, but the other one is definitely PO'd.

What this shows, more than anything else, is that ISU, like UNI has some pretty substantial money issues. Same with SIU. Same with Evansville. Same with MSU. Same with Drake.

In one of the other threads some posters are discussing whether they like to see Creighton struggle. I completely understand that sentiment. The fact of the matter though is that there are really only two schools in the MVC on solid financial ground, WSU and Creighton. (Bradley would probably be next in the order, although they are looking into moving some basketball games into a smaller arena to save money). For the MVC to be successful, it needs the top programs and programs with the largest fanbases to be at the top. The MVC tourney is best attended when Creighton, WSU, SIU, MSU and Bradley are strong (even though SIU & MSU are not on the most firm footing financially, they do have large fanbases). When Drake, UNI, ISU, etc are at the top, attendance figures at the tourney are way, way down.

It may be time to expel some teams from the conference in order to put the conference on a more firm financial footing. The starting spot may be the Indiana teams. Replace them with schools on good financial footing that are in decent sized metro areas that may lure better TV coverage packages.

Certainly not looking to pick a fight with those statements, DJay. Could it be that WSU and CU fanbases are on some like footing?!

Actually, I think the only way the Valley is going to improve is for those "most influential" schools to unite and make demands on the MVC to improve itself. Either by existing schools meeting some requirements, adding additional new blood, or purging and adding. These are tough times, but the MVC is/has been dropping in it's athletic standing among its pier conferences. 15th RPI in baseball and now possibly not considered one of the top 10 men's basketball conferences. This downward trend hurts all the schools.

DJay - who would you like to see in the Valley?

I saw one great amazing game on their schedule that is on their court. It's that Wichita State team. Aren't they supposed to be crazy good this year?

Make fun of that poster all you want, but it's light-years better than that bore-fest we put out two seasons ago. Really? Just standing around in white? Lame.

Ideally, I'd like to grab Dayton and Xavier from the A10 - two schools with strong basketball traditions that are also good sized markets. Unfortunately, I don't know that there is any chance of that unless something were to happen to the A10.

If the Big East were to blow up because of football, I'd love to see us grab Marquette and Depaul. Once again, two schools with a strong basketball focus and tradition in large media markets. Unfortunately, the impending break up of the Big East that was predicted last spring/summer never came to be.

Based on what is left (and understanding that teams with D1 FB programs are probably not interested) St Louis U and Butler may be the best options. Adding SLU may also get the MVC tourney out of St Louis, which would please me greatly.

I haven't followed college baseball much in the last few years, but how many of those schools have baseball programs? And how many of them are any good? I know the Valley isn't great, but would WSU baseball players, fans, and coaches jump at this opportunity like I'm sure the basketball folks would?
