I'm not worried yet. Some other things to remember about last night was that P.J. logged a lot of minutes and Baylor really wanted to stop him. Also, he played defense against there best scorer.
Defense wins games if it allows your Offense opportunities to score, and if your Offense doesn't score, then Defense alone won't do it. It will keep you in the game, but it won't put you over the top.
I think the team is too much in the mindset that PJ, Matt, and Gal are going to 'carry' the team. We need the other players to step up, taking pressure off our 3 main players, and everyone can then start having more fun and teamwork. Durley is helping out, but we need Gris and Ellis to start being Offensive threats, and Clemente needs to be more reliable on putbacks.
This happened last year some with Sean some, and when others stepped up, it took pressure off Sean, who then started opening up to make his shots.
Everyone has to pull their weight, Offensively as well as Defensively. A team that only has 1 or 2 scorers is easy to beat, but a team that has 6 scorers is not.

I agree we need more people step up. However, being seniors Matt, PJ and Phil will HAVE to carry the team at times...especially early. That's part of their responsibility as seniors IMO. Phil has done his part, Matt and PJ have to step it up as well.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
I'll be surprised if the Shox even get into the NIT this year. As is the story with every year, they have so much talent, things just don't seem to be going their way. Shooting seems to definitely be a problem though, there's no excuse for shooting so poorly. I'm hoping they can make a run and surprise me, and I know it's only 3 games into the season, but I'd be happy to see them win 15 this year, and maybe get past the first round of the valley tournament

Reading that crystallized a thought I had after watching the game online tonight. They even pointed this out on the radio, that on offense we don't move; instead we just pass the ball around waiting for something to happen.
Watching it all made me think that the new players are almost afraid to make something happen. Like they'd rather have Matt, Gal, PJ, or Phil make things happen. I'll let CGM bust out the psychology books, but those are my thoughts.

That's why teams play "Match-up Zone", it disrupts your offense so you don't run around, you move the ball around to find the open shot.

1. With a new coach and new system, defense and rebounding are usually the first things that come around. It appears to me we are doing very well in those areas.
2. The offense takes time. It is just more than going out and shooting. You have to get a rhythmn, a feel for where everyone is on the floor and a feel for the hot hand. If you are thinking a lot about the plays and where you need to be on the floor, it takes away from your concentration and ability to be comfortable in shooting. This scenario also contributes to more turnovers. More practice time and especially game time experience is huge.
3. There is no excuse for a lack of effort, but "pressing" will cause mistakes.
4. I believe the Baylor game took a lot out the team and yesterday's perfomance is indicative of this.
