I can only think of one reason why he would announce his "retirement" right now. It's got to be part of a deal - probably involved with KU "clearing" him in their internal investigation.

KU: "Okay, Lew, here's the deal. We stop looking and digging right here. If we do that, we won't have found anything in our investigation. Then you announce your retirement tomorrow. If you don't want that deal, we're calling our next witness and you and I both know where that's going to go - what do you say"?

By the way, and just SLIGHTLY off topic, KU should be given the death penalty for releasing that their basketball program scored a PERFECT 1000 on the APR.

Now, I won't profess to know the details of the formula, but it seems that you should have a couple of kids actually graduate to get a perfect score.

I'm not a fan of LP. I think he is a disgrace. He was terrible at WSU and he's worse at KU. It's a good think he didn't wind up at Kitty U or he would have you guys playing in the Juco leagues by now. Oh wait a minute... You might accomplish that without his help. Get ready for the safety line to be cut... KU will be fine (possible Big 10) as long as that dead cat still isn't wrapped around their ankle.

How great is it to have KU and KSU fans coming to the WSU board and getting into arguments about which school is going to get jobbed worse than the other?

I hope that KU and KSU fans both realize that their tag-along association with a BCS league is totally dependent on whether Texas wants to keep subsidizing them.

It's kind of comforting to be a fan of a lowly mid-major. We don't entirely control our own destiny, but at least we're not totally at the mercy of a rich uncle who may get tired of supporting us.

So now Sweet Lew is refusing to press forward with the charges against the guy who hooked him up with the exercise/rehab equipment. Obviously he had no case and would only incriminate himself further with this unethical f-up on his part.

You are right. Afterall, the KU Chancellor conducted her own internal investigation and found no wrongdoing. That's certainly credible enough for me. Nevermind, Lew, it's a real tragedy that you were abused and humiliated by a person who thought they could get KU tickets under the table. Who's ever heard of such a thing!?!

In an unrelated story, one of KU employees charged in the ticket scandal plead guilty but said that he was ordered to do it by his superior(s). I'm sure KU's internal investigation will convince the FBI to drop those charges and ignore the guilty plea as well.
