Veritas, phog.net is really calling your name.

The "KU doesn't need to cheat" defense is WELL WORN OUT NOW.

    Listen carefully Hawkies: KU CHEATED.

    That is all.

Btw, and not to get too excited, but the word from the REAL money men around town is that this thing is nowhere near over and the other shoe may be ready to drop.
WU, that's a bit rich, as there are a few mentally deficient posters on Phognet that are telling me the same thing regarding Shockernet.
    Go figure...

Back to the topic at hand. I wouldn't be surprised to see more schools come out regarding their own Pump Bro issues or ticket scamming problems. One thing is clear imo, and that is LP is clearly not as smart as he gives himself credit for, and he has become about as divisive as can be.
He will soon be the ex-athletic director at KU.

You're probably right...it was a bidding war for top recruits and KU had $3 - $10 million to spend. At least it bought them a national title, so it was all worth it!

I sure hope not. Besides all of the LP issues, the main thing I'm concerned about now is the Morningstar issue. This whole thing is a complete mess.

          • Not a good time to be Lew Perkins. An Aggie buddy of mine just sent out "breaking news" that apparently the Pac-10 is having their annual meeting this weekend and is prepared to offer Texas, A&M, Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Colorado spots in a new "Pac-16".

The driving force would be to form a new television network with massive reach. All Big 12 teams would be in the East division with Arizona and Arizona State. Who knows if they jump, but... wow. If they do?

            Have fun sleeping tonight, Lew.

            • Let's see, Lew got rid of WSU football....he's now ruining KU basketball....any chance KSU might hire him as an AD someday?

              • It would seems KU fan's 2 biggest lines of defense right now are

1)KU doesn't need to cheat, so why would they? (lack of motive)

2)Other people are doing the same thing so KU must not be that bad. (innocence by association?)

Classic tactics of the guilty. I suspect a Plan B method next. Blame WSU.

May I ask, which part is rich?

And there are a "few" mentally deficient posters on phog.net??!!

I have no idea, but from what I've heard, this thing very well may not stop with Sweet River Lou.

Here's a great line from that article:

If they hadn't hired Perkins, KU would be the best damn school in the Missouri Valley right now.
This guy doesn't even ask Lew to change boxers before he kisses his backside.

If CU, OSU, OU, aTm, Texas, and TT take up the Pac-10's offer to make it the PAC-16 and UNL and UM take up the B10(11)'s offer, he might find out about that "best damn school in the Missouri Valley" real quick. I don't know if KU can achieve that. I'm certain Iowa State won't be able to.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

                    • That article could have been entitled "Don't Confuse Me With The Facts".

I wonder if the NCAA is working on a new rule, perhaps even named after KU, that would limit some of these gray areas?

                        • And we were wondering what we would have to talk about this summer.

We may still be talking about this next summer. We are potentially looking at a Orupke breaking thread here.

I have a hard time believing the tentacles attached to this deal won't reach at least a few other institutions. This deal has an "orgainzed crime" smell to it.

If it does not extend beyond KU, then KU looks just that much worse.

                            • I would be willing to put very good money on betting that 20 or 30 other schools are puckering up their anuses right now because they are using the exact same method of funneling money to recruits.

The irony in the whole deal is that the NCAA gives the schools tickets worth many times their face value. Then the schools move some of those tickets into channels to collect that extra money and use AAU coaches yto handle the final distributions.

The NCAA is providing the vehicle that schools can use to violate NCAA rules. The NCAA needs to put in some rules that account for every ticket they provide to schools for NCAA events. The lack of any effective accounting or controls gives the appearance that the NCAA might be knowingly providing the source of supposedly illegal funds and looking the other way until they get caught.

It's not just KU and I think the NCAA is also guilty in this.

KU made the mistake of using a criminal in their redistribution of tickets. That criminal wanted to get a lesser sentence and he talked. He got nothing. KU provides many prosecutors, judges, and lawyers from their law school. KU has a certain level of control over discretionary items in the judicial system. KU used a dumb criminal who didn't realize he was more likely to get preferential treatment by keeping his mouth shut than by talking.
