Can we get an IQ check on this guy? Marshall isn't leaving for Iowa or Auburn. He's not stupid.

And seriously? Danny Manning? First, he has almost zero coaching experience as he's only been an assistant a year or two. Second, I don't think he has any desire to ever leave KU or become a head coach. Third, that's about the dumbest first post I've ever seen.

Where's dofo when you need him?

I have a feeling GM will be considered the second best candidate out of the MVC after what Ben J. at UNI is doing. He'll probably get a lot of looks after their run is over.

I say we go with new blood...like maybe Joe Auer from Heights. He just won the state title, he'd be cheap and give us a good shot at Perry Ellis. Sexton should probably put the bug in his ear now so he's ready to go as soon as Marshall leaves.

Absolutely no way do we hire a high school coach.

Screw that moose. I know of a poster on here who has coached. He'll need 3 assistants. Trop should be one since he's the recruiting guru and is located in the south. We have a couple of guys in TX so we could get one of them to keep Houston and Dallas in play. I'm just not sure where we go with the third assistant. It's late and I'm struggling with the rest.

                ABC:
Manning is a legitimate candidate. He is an assistant coach at an elite program with great recruiting connections. Manning has been influential in several of KU's big recruiting gets. Don't know if he would want to leave KU.

                To the rest of Shockernet:
Who would you have on your list of potential replacements?

                My list:
                Danny Manning (KU asst.)

Brad Underwood (K-State asst.) - Unlikely, but plausible. Is a veteran asst. coach at a high-level program with midwest recruiting ties.

Billy Gillispie (former TAMU and UK head coach) - Would it happen? I don't know. Midwest recruiting ties, impressive track record, excellent recruiter and...out of a job.

Joe Dooley (KU asst.) - Top asst. at elite program, great recruiter...but likely candidate for Seton Hall job because of NE ties.

Todd Lickliter (former Iowa coach) - Looking for a job now. Had success at Butler and too early an exit at Iowa.

Steve Lavin (former UCLA coach) - Out of coaching for awhile, but has been in coaching talks lately.

Doug Wojcik (Tulsa head coach) - Successful area mid-major coach. Way over .500 record.

Billy Kennedy (Murray St. head coach) - A hot name right now, obviously. Just heard it thrown around a lot...don't think it would make sense here.

Tony Barbee (UTEP head coach) - Ties to Texas, which has been good to us in recruiting in the past. Another hot name right now.

Lon Kruger (UNLV head coach) - Former KSU head coach, successful at UNLV.

Johnny Jones (North Texas head coach) - Ties to Texas recruiting, having success at UNT.

Auer would not be hired. WSU would not hire a HS coach.

As for Eck, WSU wouldn't hire a JC coach, though he has been very successful. Eck is eccentric and is known to do things that wouldn't fit into NCAA rules (5 hr. practices, snooping around players' rooms, etc.)

Don't know who else would be candidates.

I know for a fact that if Iowa hires a mid-major coach they will have hell to pay with their fans. Marshall to Iowa is not going to happen.

There is some talk of the UNI coach moving down the road, also not going to happen. People here realize inherently the personality it will take to attract big time big 10 talent to the school. Look for someone like Drew from Baylor or Buzz Peterson from Marquette to be the next Iowa coach.

The career of HCGM will be best served by taking this team to the tourney next year, doing some damage at that time, and then choosing from what will certainly be a more attractive set of opportunities.

                    I hope that was sarcasm.

I've had 2 legit ideas to take over next year when Marshall leaves and been immediately shot down both times. Let me try one more time. I go to the "Y" sometimes and have seen this guy who coaches a biddy ball team. Now, I've seen a lot of biddy coaches before and this guy really has what it takes to move to the next level. Granted they are 5 and 6 year olds, but they play solid, fundamental ball. Last week the biddy team they were supposed to play didn't show so they played a scrimmage with the best 7 - 8 year old team. We all thought it was going to be a slaughter. But I'll be damned, those 5 year olds went out there with a plan and executed and won...you probably heard about it on the news. I know you all think I'm crazy, but I think this guy is the real deal and he just needs to be given a shot. We don't have much time so I'm going to stop by the "Y" tomorrow after work and get his name.

I've turned down both the Iowa and DePaul openings since this thread was posted.

I'm saving myself for that WSU opening that seems to come up in a couple of weeks according to some WSU students, and they obviously have access to info on campus that's not available to those of us not on campus every day.

I'm straight out of the Frank Martin mold - never played for my HS team because of my family situation - and probably my lack of basic skills like a shooting range past 4". Hey, but that's the trend now - right?

I think Iowa was about to make me an offer, but I took my name out of contention once I heard that the WSU job would be open in a couple of weeks.

You want me to be WSU's coach. I've got a good friend who knows Perry Ellis's parents and he's watched Ellis all the way from elementary school to where he is now and he's got an in with the family.

I can deliver Perry Ellis and I'm getting a good reaction from Cheddar - asking him if he'd like to trfr and get a degree from WSU if I were the coach.

Since I'm not currently on anybody's payroll, I can tell recruits anything I want. I'm telling some burger boys that I'm just gonna throw the balls out and let them play their game. They love it since they're convinced that's their quickest route to the NBA and they all want to play for me, since I won't try to change anything they're already doing.

Forget Danny Manning. I'm your guy.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Jezz why would drew leave baylor for freaking iowa...surely Baylor can pay and I think he can do great things where he is at.....I have no clue as to what makes this Iowa gig so attractive...the arrogance is almost KU'ish
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

Todd Bozeman would probably be available for Iowa or Auburn. He has done a decent job at Murray State since his 8 year show cause from the NCAA was up a couple of years ago.

I have a name which has yet to surface, but he's not tall. Other than that, he has it all; knows how to manage diverse personalities, great communicator, certainly has an eye for fashion and posesses tremendous charisma. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Captain James T. Kirk.
