One additional note on this that I hadn't heard expressed ...

You don't boo under any circumstances because, regardless of how the team is playing tonight, the future of the team for the next 10 years might be sitting in crowd.

They could be visiting recruits or just some 12yo buck-toothed kid with size 22 shoes -- no matter. It would be unfortunate if some coach somewhere could ever say about WSU and the Koch crowd "Yeah, they support you when they're winning, but they boo you when you're not" and have it ring true from a recruit's personal experience.

This is why I feel it is wholly misguided to boo -- and wholly misguided to call attention to the booing. It only hurts us in the end. The Boobirds and Marshall both should've expressed their displeasure in other ways.

Is being swept by Evansville acceptable?

Is being swept by Evansville acceptable when you're 21-6?

We were an eyelash away of getting swept by Evansville. What do you expect people to do? Prance around happily like nothing is wrong and act like that kind of play is acceptable for Wichita State University basketball?

How about some responsibility to the man in charge for the way this team has performed down the stretch in a season where they could have been on the good side of an NCAA bubble?

Let's not live in make-believe.

Guess what, Bud – Graham Hatch isn’t diving on the floor in practice because he wants people “prancing in the aisles”.

Toure Murry isn’t running stairs in the offseason because he needs your “acceptance” to D up.

And Gregg Marshall isn’t working 80 hour weeks because he doesn’t want to look “irresponsible”.

The – apparently - painful truth to you and a few other people is that none of them are going to rely on a few boobirds to motivate themselves.

The only repercussions of that behavior – particularly in this case, with a 20 win team and great kids that have not embarrassed the program in any way on or off the court - are negative and reflect the program in a poor light to players, parents, and recruits.

I’ve heard more than one coach talk about 80% of win-loss performance being pretty much predetermined – i.e. a team plays at or around it’s talent level and wins or loses the games it is expected to win or lose.

Those same coaches talk about the major incremental determinant of the success (or lack thereof) of a season happening at the margins – i.e. making sure you grab a couple of unexpected wins during that top 10% where everything is going your way, and winning as many as possible during the bottom 10% when you can’t throw the ball in the ocean.

The main point is that those peaks and troughs INEVITABLY happen, and it’s ridiculous to pretend that they don’t. Anyone who can’t accept that is living in “make-believe”, as is anybody who actually thinks that booing a player is productive.

Find me one team in the country that hasn’t had a couple of games where they underperformed and had an outcome end up closer than it should have.

You can’t. It’s called college basketball, which means (1) it’s a game of runs, (2) any team with their back to the wall is dangerous, and (3) road games are significantly tougher than they appear from your couch. Those are especially the case in The Valley, and we just happen to run into all 3 factors with E-Ville.

I realize this is a message board and people are going to speak their mind no matter how idiotic they sound. Normally, I don’t care; welcome to America. But when it crosses a line to booing a team of student-athletes that are undefeated at home… whatever. I’ve spoken my mind.


One last thing on the matter – if there are any people out there that are truly fed up with the effort, think they might feel like booing a Shocker team trying to go undefeated at home versus SIU, and don’t want their tickets, start a thread or put them on the marketplace to find a good home for them.

Conversely, if there’s anybody out there that has wanted to take their family to game to CHEER for the Shocks but hasn’t been able to afford it for whatever reason – I’ll buy them, and am good for 4. Start a thread or get them off the marketplace and PM me.

Go ahead and get mad at me! First of all I dont like booing the team either. But, for coach to get all pissy about it after the game was very childesh. We are not the ones making a million a year to lose and to take evansville to overtime at HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutly rediculous!!! He still plays AE all game when he wouldnt play for another school in the country. At the end of the game, after a timeout the coach is to tell which players are to get the ball for freethrows. We passed it in to G. Stutz, then he passed to C. Hannah then he passed to Durley. Durley passed to T.M. and he held onto it till they fouled him!!! Dumb, dumb, dumb!!! He cant make a freethrow if his life depended on it. Thats coaching! G Hatch kept throwing crap up at the goal all night. Coach never sat him for it ever!!! Did they deserve boooooooooing? YES! Did I do it? NO!!! If you dont like it then learn how to beat the worst team in valley history. It sure is funny the shooting percentage was awesome in the overtime. That tells me thats when they decided to start playing. Lack of effort in the second half of the season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! done being crappy
