If I had my way, nobody in my family would have facebook (of course my opinion doesn't count). I have not seen much good come from it, only bad.
I have facebook and have had plenty good come from it. It's easy to keep in touch with family I don't get to see much and I have found alot of friends from high school...etc. It does have its purposes.
It's also easy to easy to get re-in-touch with old highschool flames. I bet Tiger Woods has a facebook.
You cant tell student athletes that they cant have facebook...come on now talk about a lawsuit. Players have rights just like everyone else...they do need to learn alot earlier what the term public figure means....
But as others have said...Facebook is a great way to stay in touch with family and friends. With one comment you can update all the people that are admitted access to your page....how much time does that save a student athlete.
You just need to be careful of who you let in.....maybe we need to adopt some of those screening rules around here
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

I would disagree with that facebook save times based on my own experience with my teenage student-athlete daughter. She make fun of her brother playing PS3 then she goes down and plays "facebook" for about the same amount of time.

Of course you can tell them not to have a facebook. It's called team rules. They can still stay in touch with family and real friends through phone and e-mail.
That said, I agree with Lisa, that if they have one they need to be responsible and selective with who they accept as friends, unless they only use it as an avenue for publicity and not personal communication.

It saves time unless you play all those stupid games that you can get hooked on. But as far as keeping up with friends and family it's like a never-ending conversation. Easy way to keep up with people.
Facebook is not a problem. It is whatever you make of it.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

While I agree in principle that it's not a first amendment issue and that a coach is absolutely within his rights to make team rules along those lines, there's no doubt it would affect recruiting along with any other number of rules that would help team performance. There's a reason why The General's talent level started tailing off in the 90s...
On another note, I just want to say how disappointed I am that DOFO and Underdog are one and the same. I was looking forward to a steel-cage posting match between the two of them.
One person, posting under two different handles. Why... I didn't even know that was possible. I feel like the casino owner in Colda- I mean, Casablanca finding out that gambling was occurring in his establishment.

DOFO may also be PlaneShocker? Yikes, he's Tri-polar! :D
its frustrating that out of all the players on the team that it would be Toure's page that young mindless fans are talking crap on.
Toure is one of the nicest, humblest player on the team. He takes losses very hard on himself already.
he doesn't need guerrilla warfare insult tactics to motivate him or bring him down further.
luckily, our players (from what i've noticed) dont get on facebook very often and dont post incriminating posts, pictures or status updates. I think coach probably does have some team rules on the subject already.

Sure it has it purposes and in a perfect world there is nothing wrong with it with mature people, until you have somebody using it to harm or cause problem with others. Which I see happen all to often and we have seen just happen in the MVC with WSU and SIU.
