We usually play about 8 guys and all of them can produce so you can't really focus on stopping one guy. Occasionally we'll go 9 or 10 deep but lately we've narrowed down to an 8 man rotation.

I thought we were playing a team from the WACK not Duke?
The difference between us and Duke is that Duke does this with great athletes and highly recruited basketball players. We HAVE to play like this in order to just give ourselves a chance to win vs. athletic teams like Wichita State.

It looks like the Spectrum is extremely comparable to the Shockers' Charles Koch Arena. It's been much louder on many different occasions, but this is the best example I could find for the Aggie fans.

Wichita State's atmosphere looks fantastic. That's what college basketball is all about. I feel bad for the players that have to play in front of empty seats. Even a high school gym is better, if it's packed to the rafters with screaming fans, than an oversized college arena that is empty.
The Spectrum has a few distinctive qualities that, put together, make it a very unique venue for college basketball. It isn't simply that the fans inside are crazy and loud. It is a combination of a few other things as well.
1. The fans are right on top of the court. There is zero seperation from the fans and the court that you see in many of the newer circular style arenas. Going up from the floor the slope of the seating is rather steep which keeps the fans closer to the action rather than a drawn out slope that pushes them further back. Another arena that I've seen that is like this is Oklahoma State's.
2. Rather than having a domed roof with lots of space towards the ceiling of the structure The Spectrum ceiling is completely flat, low, and I swear it's made of tin because it reflects the noise, quickly and directly back down on the court.
3. Nearly half of the arena is reserved for the 4, 000 students that come to every game. They occupy nearly one entire sideline of the court as well as wrapping around the east basket. Obviously 4,000 screaming crazy college students are alot louder than regular old season ticket holders. The students are not only loud but organized and sometimes utterly ruthless. they have a publication that is passed out to each student that outlines the specific chants and the "targets" on the opposing team for that night. They take this serious and really feel like they contribute to helping the team win.
The Spectrum is a very unique place and the legend of it keeps growing and getting better each year. I'm sure there are many unique and awesome things that happen at Shocker games too. I'm not here to really compare or try to be better or anything like that. There is obviously very few "mid-major" arenas with "big-time" atmospheres around the country. Gonzaga, Wichita State, Butler and a few others are very very good. I wish there were more.

Extremely well put.
I've never understood why anyone would want to play in an empty arena.
Playing in front of a good crowd, from the point of view of a participant, is the reason that you play the game.
Schools like USU and WSU should be able to get their pick of players, from anywhere, for simply that reason.
Looking forward to the game. Just might have to deadhead on the charter for this one. Hate to wait 2 seasons for the return game though. :(

SuperiorBlueDiver: How large is the USU athletic budget?
In Kansas, state money cannot be used to support athletics. WSU reserves 1000 seats for students and they pay something ($1M - $2M per year as part of student fees?) The other 9500 seats generate revenue in terms of season tickets and SASO contributions. My guess is that MBB generates $10M per year in revenue. (At best, my guess is "ballpark.")
If you have only 4000 seats available for paying fans, where does USU Athletics get sufficient revenue? Football revenue? State money? Robbing banks? ;-)Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

It is hard to see Utah State being anything but good in two years given their track record. Here are their records for the past decade, including this year, in descending order:
16-6 (so far)
30-5
24-11
23-12
23-9
24-8
25-4
24-9
23-8
28-6
Total Record: 240-78
Chances are that in two years Utah State will be a quality rpi game at Koch arena (and is a program that I would love to get on the schedule regularly if at all possible)."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

I'm wondering if the fact that their joint will be rockin' will help a team like the Shockers who are used to playing in a great environment. Granted, the crowd will be hostile, but I would think that it would still be better to play in a great hostile environment than an auditorium with a stage that is curtained off with a crowd of about 1500."When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

The rpi's reflect that, given the win totals, Utah State wasn't playing the hardest schedule in the world, but not the worst either. They've spent an entire decade in the top 100 of the final rpi rankings."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players
